How far out were you when you were able to tolerate lettuce or salad? I'm seven weeks too early? Thanks!

Hello Swimmer! I believe we are surgi-sistas! I am also 7 weeks post-op - and wondering the same thing!

I'm craving a bunch of raw veggies and a lettuce salad. I have just in the past two days noticed I can actually eat some solid food (with a lot of chewing) and not feel heartburn or have to throw-up (which has been the case over week 6 post-op).

Thanks for prompting this question.

I was cleared for anything at 6 weeks, but some things I tried didn't set well at first. salad was one of those things. I'm 8 months now and find I can eat it ok esp. spring mix or baby spinach, iceburg lettuce still doesn't feel good but doesn't make me ill or anything.

Thanks for the input. Hi CA! How are you doing? It's starting to feel normal for me. Though some days I think I'm hungry and somedays not at all, might be acid.

I'm 8 weeks out and I've had a little bit of lettuce and had a few bites of baby spinach yesterday and did fine. I haven't tried to eat a regular salad though. My surgeon doesn't recommend iceberg lettuce because he says it has almost no nutritional value.

I'm going into my 3rd year and still can't eat salad. Lettuce, spinach, and any other leafy veggie kills me. Literally, I get that "call me an ambulance" pain that doesn't go away for about 30 minutes. . . so needless to say, I stay FAR away from lettuce and any other raw leafy veggie. . . ugh (I used to love salad)

I can eat salad at 5 months out, but I prefer the salads with a lot of color and nutritional value. Iceberg has zero nutritional value so I won't eat it. But I do eat salads in small portions. ;)

I was able to at 8 weeks. oddly enough my sleeve has partially turned me vegetarian. It doesn't seem to like a lot of meats, but loves veggies and fruits and soft things (avoid celery, I have heard a lot of people having a ton of issues with it, so I just avoid).

I eat salads in small quantites and I am about 6 weeks out. I can't do the tangy dressings at all. I do cottage cheese as my dressing put it in a covered bowl and shake it for my "dressing". I can only eat about 1/4 of a cup at a time.

I believe I was cleared for salads at either 2 or 3 months out. If I do a salad I do a very small amount of field greens or baby spinach, and usually a small amount of diced veggies. If I do a salad for an entree I try to load up on the Protein (such as grilled chicken, 2% shredded cheese, diced hard-boiled egg, bacon bits, etc.).

Im about 3.5 months post op Im wondering if I should try some raw veggies. I have been getting so bored with my other options lately, veggies would really spruce it up. Im just so nervous to try anything new. My day seriously consists of Protein Drinks, string cheese, and popsicles. Im gunna buy carrots tomorrow, im so nervous LoL

I have eaten a salad a week since 3 weeks post op. My salad consists of Mixed Greens, Spinach, Sunflower Seeds, Almonds, Hard Boiled Egg Whites, Fresh Shrimp & Balsamic Vinegar & Ranch mixed dressing. I asked my surgeon at 5 week post-op appointment if I could eat salads. He said yes.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
