Just got banded Aug 1!

Recommended Posts

I didn't think the date would ever get here, and there were many obstacles in the way but I did it!!! I was very proud of myself because I am an anxious person by nature and didn't freak out either. I was calm, and determined, and ready.

This is day 3 and I am still in pain, lots of gurgling in my tummy, and I have no appetite. I might have had a couple small teaspoons of Tomato Soup so far. The liquid percocet I'm on does help to control the pain, though.

Is the tummy gurgling and unstable bowels normal?

When will I feel better?

Hi Kiana, WELCOME to Bandland.

Is the tummy gurgling and unstable bowels normal?

Yep! Very normal... its the sounds of your body adjusting to a new formed tummy. You may want to start taking walks - it may help settle down the strange noises AND will help you pass the gas from surgery.

((hugs)) the hard part is over - getting banded!

I was just banded on August 1st. I have the same thing gurgling not much of an appetite.. but one other thing I do notice is that when I tried Jello and yogurt it hurt as soon as it hit my stomach.. the yogurt more than the jello... is that normal too?

The pain I feel is more int he center by my heart it feels bruised and as though it's tight hard to breathe from a mass being in there.. is that the same pain you are experiencing?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
