You'll do find. By the time you read this you will be in recovery and have your room, so..

I had to report for mine 7 AM (getting up at 5 AM after fasting the previous 24 hours was ...new). In the hospital surgical waiting room they had to put up signs reminding patient's family members that everyone in the room has not eaten, resist the urge to bring in that Macdonald's Egg McMuffin (I would have added that, they might get attacked).

The surgery went smoothly, but I had 3 roommates in my 4 day stay. The Hosp. didn't have a family or day room ready. The first night as I am chewing ice chips, my roomate's (in with leg injury) family brings in pizza. The second day they bring in subs AND pizza for lunch. I don't usually wish anything bad on anyone but, after lunch he bought lunch (and a little part of dinner) up... I guess prayer DOES work...

Good luck....I discovered some new words when the nurses came to get me to walk within hours of the surgery...you probably will also.... it's just 'part of the healing process'. :D

hey actnup

wow, surgery is over, and you are still around to listen to us talk about it. Really not taking this lightly, this has been a scary venture, i don't know if you ever had surgery before so this could have been extra difficult. This is quite an undertaking, but a great step towards happiness but more importantly good health.

this is a very hard yet bold step you took. i don't think "observers", family and friends realize what a big step forward this is, what a hard decision you made, your new eating situations that will lead you to a new and healthier and happier you.

so, try and shed your tears - you might hit some little bumps in the road, but remember - you'll get over that big hump (hope i said that right!)

good luck with your journey ahead

best wishes

kathy

That sounds like it was difficult. I had a room with four people but at least they were all Bari patients with the same Protein drink lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
