Good luck with the diets and surgeries everyone! This liquid diet for pre-op is kicking my butt! Medifast products taste like dog food to me :-/

I just went through my surgeon's "webinar" about the surgery and they indicated patients do a high Protein diet (I'm assuming Optifast, but I don't know yet) for four weeks before surgery.

Gah.

I am having two surgeries, actually. I need to have a broken lap band removed, and then afterwards I want to have the sleeve. So, that's two four-week periods of the pre-op diet. Well, that should bring my weight down before the surgery so I guess it's not a bad thing, but I'm not looking forward to it.

My Dr likes a two week pre op diet, but days almost no one follows it, so he requires 3 full days of a full liquids diet. I'm going to try very hard to do the 2 wk diet, with the last 3 days being completely liquid

Wow. My doctor must be the weird one. No pre-surgery diet (besides the don't eat 12 hours before the surgery thing). He said it wasn't necessary. Interesting.

Hmm! Maybe your bmi is lower? The object is to shrink your liver. Not to worry you, but that sounds strange

I only have to have Clear Liquids for 24 hours before surgery. Maybe it's because I was required to lose five percent of my body weight before surgery could be scheduled.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
