Tightness under the Breast Bone?

Since last night, I have had a bizarre, uncomfortable, sometimes painful feeling in my chest directly beneath my breast bone. Sometimes it is just a tightness, and sometimes it is more of a pain.

As I said, it began last night about the same time as I began experiencing really terrible cramping in my neck and shoulders. This feeling in my neck and shoulders reoccurred this afternoon.

From everything I have read, this sounds like it must be gas. However, I am 10 days post-op and this would be the first time I have had gas pains at all!

Has anyone experienced this before? (Meaning, gas pain in the chest under the breast bone and gas pain for the first time more than a week after banding?)

Thanks so much for your responses!

Hi I was banded by Dr Orit on April 6th and I experienced the exact same pain under my breastbone about 10 days post op...I was told it was gas trapped in my diaphram..I constantly felt pressure and felt like I had to burp but couldn't

It went away at about 2 weeks post op. The pain in your neck and shoulder is most likely trapped gas also. I just continued taking Gas X and I walked as much as possible and it went away. Hope this info helps...Good Luck

P.S. I did not have gas pains at all either until about the 5th day post op

In addition to a heating pad, would milicon drops or gas-x help?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
