Hi,

There are so many different stages of eating. Before you have WLS "sleeve" you can't imagine what it will be like--you question if it will work for you. The 1st month is quite an adjustment. For most of you, your 1st month after surgery is the hardest month you will ever have to do. For me it was a real learning period. I had to learn to wrap my mind around not eating very little amounts of food. This is were "head games or head hunger" comes into play. My head was telling me that I should be eating more and in fact, I didn't need to eat at all like I did before I had weight loss surgery. In the 2nd month you will learn to take tiny, tiny bites and chew and chew and chew before you swallow. You need to learn to eat your Protein for me Dr. Aceves said 70 grams per day. Then some fresh veggies and some fruit. I kept my calories about 800 per day with no more than 25 carbs per day.bringiton.gif

I find now 3 1/2 years later, that I can maintain my weight loss. I now have a lifestyle of eating healthy 99% of the time and I still need to do some kind of exercise. But I have learned that exercise really is good for me and I feel so much better when I do it. You just have to learn to MAKE time for yourself and put yourself FIRST when it comes to what ever your choice is for exercise.

Not too long ago I gained about 10 poundsbroken_heart.gif, so I went back to keeping track of what I was eating by keeping track of everything I was putting in my mouth. What I learned is that I was eating some wrong things because we were eating out more. We are in the middle of doing some remodeling in our house so my husband was being sweet and taking me out to eat more. You can go out and eat, just watch the amount of carbs you are eating and what kind of carbs you are eating.

I am so glad that I had WLS and it has saved my life. If you are considering this, I want you to know that it will work for you too. I did lose the 10 pounds that I gained. clap.gifIt took me about 3 weeks to lose it. I have all the skills and know what to do and how to lose it and maintain the weight loss also.

If you have any questions or need some help, I am here to help you.

Thank you Suzanne. I am getting close to maintenance and it's so helpful to see others successfully navigating the waters! And at about the same BMI I want to maintain too.

Hi, Yes you did make the right choice and it is pretty easy to maintain. It requires me to be aware of I need to exercise and eat healthy. And that is a way of life for me. I find that I like cooking a whole lot more now than I ever used to.

Hugs,

Suzanne

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
