10Months Out Ate My First Cheeaeburger Today

Recommended Posts

K well, i didn't eat the whole cheese burger. Lol, i ate half, and only the meat and toppings. Not the bun. My second oldest and i went to Nic's Grill in OKC it was features on "Dinner, Drive-in's, and Dives" it was good, and i could have eaten the bread if i had desired, funny thing is i didnt really care. So, what is my point?

Well, yes there does come a time after surgery when u really can eat whatever u want. Both physically and mentally. Its a great place to be. Notice however i mentioned this was my 1st burger. 10 months out and 12lbs below goal. So, i read a post here and there where someone is saddened that they cant eat this or that at 5, 10, 12 weeks out. My thoughts on this are (no i dont think i am an expert or know everyones circumstances) we made a choice to force a change into our lives. Sticking to a healthy eating plan should be a given! Why try to eat burgers and queso and cake and all that when u have not made goal, this tool is amazing, it works. And it works even better if we are focused and diligent. Did i cheat here and there? Heck yes, margaritas are a weakness ;-) but if I paid for it in a stall, or a pain in the gut, i understood why and how to correct it.

Now, here i am fighting the old demons as i order my with splenda! Did i mention im 12lbs below goal?

I run 3 miles 3 times a week an 10 miles on saturday, the truth is i can eat whatever i want now. And mostly what i want is good clean fuel for this new amazing body i woke up in!! You can get there, you can find that place where u can eat whatever, just in smaller portions. But it takes some time and work. It takes remembering that nothing tastes as good as thin.

I know this isnt as feel good as my normal encouragent post. I mean for it to be, i also mean for it to be a positive way to view where your headed and motivation to stay the course.

If your just starting out push forward dont give up, refocus when u lose track and fight for the beat version of you to crawl out of your old self!

I am approaching 3 months and I can not wait until I can have hamburger with cheese and Tomato and lettuce. I have tried a little chopped up hamburger and it does not work for me at this point......guess that gives me something to look forward to.

Actually, today I went out with my family and I ordered a Burnin Love cheeseburger. I ate 1/4 of it and picked the bread off out of habit. I don't really care for bread, Pasta, or rice anymore due to the space it takes up. I found out that the burger was really hot and bothered my stomach. Glad to be done. For dinner, I'm having a premier Protein shake.

I am totally amazed with the low calories I eat. But very happy. I think uneating our sleeve is the way to go.

Congrats to everyone!

I hope everyone has a good week and reaches some mini-goals. It is a hard journey at times and those mini-goals can really be encouraging.

Thanks for sharing that here! I think it's very helpful for those who are pre-op (or newly post-op) to remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I remember being in tears my first month, wondering what I had done to myself and getting SO sick of cottage cheese, Protein shakes and applesauce. :)

I went on vacation a couple weeks ago and last week, I was so busy catching up from work and getting my house organized again that I cooked very little. We fell into the old trap of eating out (pizza, mexican, etc.). I made decent choices but didn't do as well as I could have, and I literally felt icky during the weekend because I had not been eating as clean as I normally do. After going to the grocery on Saturday and restocking the house of our "staples," I've been back on track for the last 2 days (plus worked out) and it's amazing the difference it makes!!

Those of you who are "craving" certain things - don't worry, you'll have a chance to eat them again. But you may be pleasantly surprised that those things you are craving really don't taste that good to you once you've gotten into the habit of eating clean. I can't eat more than a couple potato chips before my stomach gets upset . . . anything fried makes me almost nauseous . . . I can take or leave sweets (usually a bite or two of anything will satisfy me).

I do miss a big greasy cheeseburger from time to time . . . I miss those big pretzel Buns and all the toppings - but I can make do with a lean burger with 2% cheese, no bun, and a few oven-baked fries. Almost the same as the "real thing"!!!

Yes, thats how i am. I can eat it. But it just seems such a waste of space given it has zero nutritional value. So mostly I just dont eat it.

I am Italian, so I have to watch the carbs. I might as well just glue the bread onto my mid-section! LOL!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
