barrbdoll 287 Posted March 5, 2012 Hello all.... I've been contemplating WLS for about 8 years and I am finally ready to take the leap. I have been a big girl my entire life. A 3 sport athlete in high school yet graduating weighing 230 lbs. I'm 37 now, no kids, never married and have hit the 330lb mark. I've always been the "pretty girl" and I carry my weight well (I'm 5'9 and a former plus size model). My health is still good however I'm starting to have back issues, my joints ache at times, etc.. Arthritis, Diabetes, Heart Disease and run rampant in my family and I just feel that if I don't lose a significant amount of weight my diagnosis with at least one of these ailments will be in my immediate future... Plus, I am just T I R E D of being overweight!!! Tired of sweating so easy, tired of having to use a seatbelt extender while flying, tired of looking at a booth and wondering if the seat is going to be tight, tired of being afraid of standing in a line to ride a roller coaster thinking I won't fit, etc.... I am ready to take control of my life and lose this extra weight.... My insurance has a WLS exclusion so I will be paying for the Gastric Sleeve operation myself. I have researched Dr's and have narrowed it down to Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. I just can't justify spending the extra to have the surgery here in the US. Plus my sister is a CRNP at Shock Trauma in Baltimore and the surgeon she works for knows Dr. Ortiz and highly recommomends him. I would appreciate any support or words of wisdom. My surgery date is April 16th. Thanks in advance!!! Emily
