Apple Pie In A Mug

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new here. I had VSG 1 week ago today and all is going well except I am really bored with broth, Decaf tea, and Water. I found on you tube a recipe for a clear liquid diet apple pie in a mug. It consist of apple juice, drop of honey, pinch of cinnamon, and a drop of vanilla simmered on the stove. Do you think this is ok? Has anyone else tried it before?

I haven't tried it, but the recipe sounds delish and I don't see anything wrong with it. I did drink warm apple juice while I was on clears and having trouble getting down enough calories. Apple juice is a relatively high in "empty" calories and I was instructed not to "drink calories" so it is now a rare treat.

I think this early out, you're taking in so few calories that would be an OK thing to try (but double-check with your nutritionist if you're not sure about it).

I'm a week out too! Although I got to start thick soft foods today (yogurt etc) but I was told to dilute my apple juice 3 parts Water 1 part apple juice, so maybe try that?

I was on a liquid diet for 5 weeks. My doc actually told me to drink about 8 ounces of apple juice every morning during those 5 weeks because he said with just broth and Water you're not getting much if any carbs and your body still needs some carbs. I think it sounds very good and yummy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
