Of course you should ask your doctor first but I can tell you my experience. I began walking from the start. In the hospital, it was the hallway. At home, it was my hallway. Through the 2nd week I would pace up and down my hallway in my house 50 times a day coutning each one . On week 3, I started outside walking. One mailbox at a time. Every day I would add another mailbox until I got around the block. And then I would add another mailbox until I was twice around the block. And eventually I got up to 5 miles. Something else I use is Leslie Sansone walking tapes if you prefer not to go outside. I wish you all the best . I think the fact that you are thinking about incorporating exercise shows that you are really on board with using all the tools available to be successful!

I wouldn't be lifting weights for awhile. that is my opinion. No need to risk tearing things. But walking should be safe.

I believe most doctors want you walking as much as possible as soon as possible. They had me walking the halls in the hospital the same day as the surgery. I'm a little over 3 weeks out and walking 2 miles a day. I'm trying to workup to at least 3 miles per day.

Usually no strenous exercise until 6-8 wks out.

I am 3 weeks post surgery right now. My doc told me to walk as much as I could. I am not allowed to lift more than 10 pounds or do any kind of core excercise until after 6 weeks.

Yes, walking is best and is good for you and helps get the blood flowing to help you recover faster. My doc said no wt lifting until after 6 weeks (same with core exercises).

Yeah, it should be ok, just take it easy. Also, I think it's a good idea to have something like Gatorade available on hand, especially if you are planning to exercise for more than 10 mins - I found I developed low blood sugar very easily early after my surgery.

I was walking many laps in the hospital, and was walking the neighborhood the day I came home from the hospital. I had very little pain at the incision site, but horrendous shoulder pain from gas. I have a home elliptical trainer and I was on that the first week, but not using the arm action. My surgeon approved anything that I felt like doing that didn't involve lifting more than 20 pounds. He suggested biking as a good exercise for soon after surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
