Don't let anyone stop you from getting this surgery if it's something you want and are willing to give your all to make it work. Good luck throughout this journey, we are all here if you have any questions or concerns. Do you have a date for your surgery?

I totally understand where you are coming from. I too have only told a few people. Some are totally against it. I do not have advice on how your huband is taking it but I can say that you have to make this decision for yourself. People do not understand what we feel within our own skin. It has never been about being a size 5. I want this to be healthy. I am using my sleeve as a tool not as a total solution to my problem. I do feel it is a mind thing as well. For those of us whom are emotional eaters, we do have to take contol of past issues, current issues, and after getting sleeved, any issues that are to come. I plan to seek counseling to help with some of my issues. This is a huge life changing event for you. I too, have tried several diets. It is hard to stay on them. Pray about it. We will pray with and for you. And I pray that your husband will come around and understand why you are about to go through with this life changing event and how important it is to you. Keep us posted

You are not alone on this one! A lot of people have had to fight to get this surgery. Fighting everyone from their insurance to their relatives. But if you know in your heart this is what you need then you have to just go for it. Like you I was very nervous and scared. I had plenty of people telling not to do it. But something told me "do it. it's time". I waited 10 years and in those 10 years I gained double the weight. I knew I needed it and it has been a miracle for me. Hang in there and if you don't have support at home then come here. we will support you!

I am so glad and happy for you that you will be having the surgery. I know that I did not tell very many people that I was having surgery either as many would have just said "Oh you are not that heavy and you can lose weight if you watch what you eat." Hell what do they think that I have been doing over the past 30 years with as many diets as I can remember. I am also sorry that you do not have the support of your husband but he is just scared for you and maybe the thought of something going wrong during the surgery is scaring him more than he can admit to you. He will come around once he starts to see not only the physical change in your but also the tremendous mental change in you. You outlook on life and how you live the rest of your "NEW LIFE" will be totally amazing to you and to those around you as they watch you change in front of their eyes. You will wonder why you waited so long for this as many of us do. The main thing is that you have made a decision and you are sticking to your guns.

Congratulations and please keep us posted on your surgery and progress. God Bless.

Glad that you are going into the surgery with a confident and positive outlook. This forum gave me that confidence to go into my surgery. These days, VST is the first thing I open on my browser when I wake up LOL.

And all the best for a safe surgery and speedy recovery!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
