Drinking 8oz in a few minutes 3 days after surgery does not sound safe to me at all. My surgeons goal for me was to get in 4oz per hour! Definitely no solids.

Are you on a PPI?

No solids! You do not want to comprimise the strength of your staple line. You may feel great, but you must give your new stomach time to heal. I have never heard of anyone being able to drink that quickly post op. Definately call your doctor.

Acid control- like Prilosec, Zantac, Nexium, Protonix

I bet that the 'hunger' you are feeling is actually acid. Your stomach has been split wide open and stomach acid is extremely caustic. Without a good PPI you are going to have a constant, nagging ache that mimics hunger really really well.

I agree with the others. You probably need an acid reducer. You'll be amazed at how quickly that "hunger" feeling diminishes once you start taking it.

You may feel fine right now, but slow down and try to drink the amount your doc recommends per hour. Your stomach nerves are pretty numb from the anesthesia and trauma, so it's very hard to feel "full" right now. My full signal right after surgery was pain in my left shoulder and it took me a few days to recognize it. If you drink too much, you may not even recognize it, but you will have pain and possibly nausea. Vomitting this early post op would NOT be pleasant.

I have to agree with the girls above. I actually remember feeling the same way. I was starving. I really felt like what the heck did I just do. Did I have my stomach removed or something else? Because I was truthfully extremely hungry. I reread some of my paper with details on the surgery and some forums here and they all say the same thing. It may not feel like heart burn, but the acid is causing what feels like hunger. Plus your probably still fighting your brain on how much food you think you should be eating. I'm sorry, but it will be like this for awhile. The hunger will pass try anyone of the above ppis they even have a equate brand that is a bit cheaper at Walmart then the rest. I am 10 months out and still take one everyday. Heartburn or not your have to take preventitive care to protect your new tummy. Good luck, it does get easier.

I'm on day 4 post op feeling confused like y did I do this yet I feel ok. I'm lost in some ways I'm afraid of leaks and dehydration! I am not able to get in 64 oz of Water a day I get in May 32 is that ok?

Eating stylus this early can freaky injure your new tummy. It could stretch, pop staples. You could get septic and that could be deadly. My doc is a leader in the field has done about 2k sleeves and has Clear Liquids for 10 days, then all liquids 10 days, then puree 10 days, then soft food for 2 weeks. That's 6 weeks before solid food. Don't risk it.

We also have to take ppi for at least 3 months. Get those and drink Water. More clear Protein if you can, that should help. And head hunger is sometimes a problem.

As for water, I'm 5 days post op and I 2 able to get a few liters down yesterday, but the Protein Shake t(12oz) ook a good hour

I felt great after surgery but I really had restriction swallowing. Remember to SIP sip sip!! You can test that new stomach but you will be sorry if you eat something you shouldn't, I promise. Keep yourself busy, follow the eating plan of your doctor, and you won't have to worry about vomiting, swelling, nausea and God knows what else. At 5 weeks post op I had a small piece of very soft chicken, did not chew it well enough, and it lodged mid chest. I honestly thought I was having a heart attack but I could not talk to call 911. It passed in 2 minutes but that pain is something I won't forget. The advice you get here from many people is great, so I am glad you are talking it out with us. This sleeve will work for you. Don't sabotage yourself. My husband is down 90 lbs. since his sleeve 12/2/13. Best wishes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
