Don't Know What To Eat !

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 weeks out & my Dr wanted solids at 4 weeks so I've been working on it, but I'm struggling with what to eat. I've done tuna & other moist fish....sometimes successfully, sometimes not. Ground beef was a nightmare, my first attempt at chicken was last night & went ok. Sort of. Yesterday running around with my kids out of desperation I grabbed q tiny package of hummus with pita chips. I only ate a few of the chips but piled on the hummus for some Protein. It went down soooo easily. It has been the easiest thing I've eaten since broth & yogurt. So I ate it again for dinner & snack. I ended up eating a ton of carbs! Yikes! So now I'm stumped. I have no clue where to go from here. I want to maximize my sleeve, but I don't know what to eat!!! I've thrown up multiple times daily since surgery other than a handful of days, so feeling full & not sick felt so good! Any suggestions on where to go from here?? I know the mushies stage was kind of carb heavy, but I don't want to get into any bad habits ..... Help!

At five weeks out, I liked lowfat cheeses and deli lunch meats about the best for solids. I ate greek yogurt every day for Breakfast and had a Protein Drink at night to get enough Protein in. I also liked turkey chili. In my program, we were not cleared for beef till after 6 weeks. After 6 weeks, I ate the 98% fat free beef chili.

Here's a typical day of what I ate at 5 weeks:

60 grams Protein, 480 calories:

Breakfast: 1/2 cup fat free plain greek yogurt

Lunch: 2 oz. 98% fat free ham, 1/3 cup watermelon

Dinner: 1/2 cup lowfat turkey chili

Late Nate: 1 cup soy milk with Protein powder

I ate most meats with some kinds of sauce, such as BBQ Sauce, ketchup, or gravy. Some days, I could only eat 1 oz. or 1.5 ounces of protein, even soft protein.

I am echoing the ppl above. =) I ate/eat greek yogurt(you can kick it up by adding suger free flavoring syrups and/or sugar free preserves),cottage cheese is soooo yummy and I love to put peaches in it. I steam cauliflower, then smash it up and add a lil "I can't believe it's not butter" and it becomes a healthy version of mashed potatoes! It sounded so nasty to me the first time someone told me to do it,but now,it's one of my favorite meals and I even sometimes add unflavored Protein Powder to up the Protein. =) You can try getting rotisserie(sp?) chicken from somewhere. I have found that meats cooked by restaurants have been easier for me to get in my sleeve. And deli meats too. I guess I just can't cook it tender enough myself but I am learning. :P Chew chew chew and chew some more when you introduce meats. Scrambled eggs is also a good idea, great source of protein and easy to get down for most ppl.

Cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, light cheese sticks, deli turkey slices with slice of cheese on WASA crackers (low carb). StarKist sandwich Ready albacore tuna in the pouch. 3 1/2 oz. and very tasty. Put on a WASA cracker and half a slice of cheese on top and put in toaster oven for a minute or so, and have a tuna melt! Also turkey chili and rotisserie chicken (darker meat is better than white.) 3 turkey meatballs with some marinara sauce. Laughing cow cheese wedges. Lots of beans!

I've been having 1-2 oz grilled salmon every few days and it is delic. Very small bites and chew it up to mush. Awesome. Also sounds Grose but sometimes I mix in blueberry Greek yogurt with the salmon and it is so good!!!!! The salmon alone is very high in Protein but add the greek yogurt in and bam! A good 20-25 gr protein. Baby bel cheese is delic too.

I'm also 5 weeks out and have been eating lots of Soup. Split pea with ham, bean, vegetable, etc. I also loved the hummus! I like turkey slightly pureed with gravy and a T of mashed potatoes. I eat scrambled egg. Soft ham is nice, too. I couldn't eat regular foods at this point. I had an incident with chicken the other night that I didn't chew well enough and I've had to go back on liquid for two days because it hurt my stomach so much. I'm not allowed a full diet until 8 weeks out.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
