You sound like your doing awesome.. It is amazing how fast some people heal from having major surgery. I'm 3 weeks out and I feel totally back to normal..

As for your sense of smell, mine was the exact same way I came home from the hospital and made my boyfriend take out the trash and clean everything. It was like I had super smell. I could smell people from way far away. The smell of my boyfriend was the worst..lol and I loved his smell before. It has gotten better everyday and now it's pretty much back to normal. I just don't like strong smelling perfumes.

Congrats on the beginning of the rest of your life..

Merydia, im glad to know you are feeling well! and even more happy to know that this smell thing should get better. I know what you mean! my husband works construction and the smell of wood on him when he got home just made my stomach turn! haha.. but i noticed that im beginning to get a little more tolerable of food smells... perfume is the worst, even just a hint of flowery perfume makes me want to vacate the area.. hahah.. congrats to you too on your fast recovery!

Caiti!!! I loved your post! I am glad you are doig well. Each day from here gets better and better. I think you have a great attitude!!! I also struggled with smell in the begining. Also taste!!! Two of the biggest challenges for me were that I became lactose intolarant and my sense of smell was just so intense. I am happy to say that both gradually went away - the sense of smell more quickly - and now I am just back to the way I was... Oh but 82 pounds lighter and with a smaller capacity for food :-) well more energy too! .. and other good things ... but that's another post LOL

Congratulations beautiful lady!!! Enjoy your family and looking forward to reading about your progress!!!!

mnb sleeve, YES! my tastes have changed so much too! i made my menu for the first few weeks after surgery and it has served for nothing, because all the sweet fruit smoothies just are way to sweet for me! that and the cream Soups that i liked before arent my favorite now.. i really have to force myself because i dont have much of an appetite at all, but im assuming that will change with time! I cant wait to be able to say im that much lighter! Congratulations on your progress and thank you for the kind words!

5 days post op here too, and I can concur with your statement. I feel good, and it was not as painful as I had expected. We will make it through this. I am grateful to God for making this a little easier than the last lapband surgery.

Yes, mine is scheduled for March 19 w/ Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. I'm very excited, but a bit apprehensive as well. I'll be traveling alone & as you know, this surgery is a big step.

Here's to a great 2012!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
