Michelle Wolfe 9 Posted March 2, 2012 Made these for the first time today and they are amazing! Tasty way to meet your Protein goals for the day! One tip, if they are too dry just keep adding Water to the mix until you get the desired consistency you want. http://www.ehow.com/way_5494991_easy-high-protein-bar-recipe.html
longer-life 139 Posted March 2, 2012 Great!!!!! I will definitely try them. Do you keep them on the fridge? I wonder how long they keep. Have you tried freezing them? Thanks for sharing!
Michelle Wolfe 9 Posted March 2, 2012 Yes, I put them in the fridge. I havent tried freezing them since I just made them today, but that is a great idea! I ended up rolling mine into balls and putting them in a muffin tin and it made 12. I was a little worried about the recipe since it contains cottage cheese, and I hate cottage cheese. Good news is you can't taste it at all, just adds more Protein to the recipe!
lessofme2010 25 Posted March 3, 2012 How many carbs are they??? Julie
Michelle Wolfe 9 Posted March 3, 2012 Honestly I'm not sure on the carbs, the recipe says 300 calories and 24 grams of Protein per bar. I'll have to try and figure out the carbs.
SleeveDreamer 383 Posted March 4, 2012 These sound great. I would like the carb count also though. I am not a fan of any store bought proten bar I have tried yet. They are either too sweet or too dense for me. I really don't have a sweet tooth, so I would love to make some of these tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.
Lisa :) 231 Posted March 4, 2012 1 cup of dry oats is about 55 grams of carbs and 1/2 cup cottage cheese is 4 grams. So you're looking at about 60 carbs for the entire recipe...about 8 grams of carbs per bar. Sounds like a great bar....I'll have to give these a try!! These sound great. I would like the carb count also though.
Michelle Wolfe 9 Posted March 5, 2012 No problem sleevedreamer! And thanks for figuring out the carbs for me Lisa! Since surgery I have been trying to find recipes I can modify to make them low carb or recipes that have lots of Protein, so if I find anymore yummy recipes that turn out, I'll keep everyone posted. Helo-Tech 7 Posted March 13, 2012 Hey all, I tried these the other day, followed the recipe to the letter, they taste great but they are more like a paste than a bar. they are very edible but super dense and very "sticky". I'm gonna tweak the recipe a bit and see if I can get them a little more solid.
Viola 15 Posted March 14, 2012 http://yourlighterside.com is a great site that has many low carb recipes. I made a pizza out of cauliflower (the crust) and my kids didn't even notice. They don't do veggies so I was shocked when they ate it all up and asked for more. It's really very tasty.
Viola 15 Posted March 14, 2012 Okay, I just plugged in this recipe into myfitness pal recipe calculator. Using the 9x9 pan and cutting 8 bars according to the recipe it comes up with the following nutrition facts: Calories per serving: 295 Carbs = 18 Fat = 17 Protein =
deshauna 2 Posted March 14, 2012 Sounds delicious to me.
Helo-Tech 7 Posted March 17, 2012 Hey all, just and update on these. I made another batch today and they turned out MUCH better than the first ones. the only changes I made were: did not grind the oats into flour. and I added about a cup of coarsly chopped dry roasted peanuts. they are much more like a "bar" should be and the nuts give them a bit of a crunch that is great. BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted March 17, 2012 Sweet! I was just thinking the other day that as much as I enjoy my Zone bars, it'd be nice to have something less processed as an option.
BunnyLove 28 Posted March 18, 2012 Use Greek-style yogurt if you don't have cottage cheese.< br /> Make PB&J bars by putting down half the Peanut Butter mixture, spreading down a layer of no-sugar-added jam or jelly, then topping with the second half of the peanut butter mixture. Drizzle with melted sugar-free bittersweet chocolate.< br /> If you want to add some salty crunch, spread half the peanut butter mixture, chop up low-carb/high Protein pretzels and press them into the mix, then top with the second half of the peanut butter mixture.
