Hi everyone

I just have a few questions

1- im on lexapro, lamictal and seroquel. Would i need to crush all of themup post surgery?

2- i took the venous duplex sonogram today. Just out of curiosity did anyone have edema pre surgery?

3- im worried about getting denied. Does anyone have bcbs ppo? I live in ny..how long till u actually got approved?

Thanks!

I have BCBC PPO in North Carolina and had no problem getting approved. BCBS is really pro bariatric surgery according to my doctor office. Check with then and they will tell you requirements. Mine required BMI of 35 with something else like diabetes. Good luck

I can only answer one if your question is about general swelling / edema - yes I had pretty bad edema in my feet and ankles as well as swelling of my arms, hands and face at times. I would just hold Water in a terrible way. My feet and lower legs would actually be shiny as the skin was drawn so tight. I now have a mild bout in the lower legs occasionally, I can especially feel it in the soles of my feet but in general the situation has improved dramatically.

As far as insurance you need to realize that in many cases BCBS does not PROVIDE insurance, they ADMINISTRATE the health care for companies or governments that self insure. Each group has their own restrictions based upon what type of coverage they negotiated with BCBS to administrate. So not many can honestly answer your questions unless they belong to precisely the same group you do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
