Do you really need to take so much time off work? My schedule varies and I have a 6 day stretch off, wouldn't that be enough?

So far from what I've heard it depends on the person, of you don't mind me asking how old are you? What's your weight? And where are you from?

My doctor has given me 6 weeks off and I intend to take it to heal. I am 50, have type 2 diabetes and on 3 medications to control it, 2 medications for high blood pressure, so I am guessing my body may take a little longer to heal. If I feel extra great sooner then I will return sooner.

Some people may not be lucky enough to be able to take that much paid time off.

I would say just don't push it, it is your health and that is what you are trying to regain.

God bless and have a great day!

It really depends. I think the biggest things to worry about is getting your liquid in and figuring out how to eat lunch. When I was first sleeved, it was all I could do to keep track of my Fluid intake. It felt like a full-time job because I couldn't drink very much at a time. It took me 12 hours to get my 64 ounces in, and it was drinking steady to do that. Eating easily took an hour or more.

I went back to work after two weeks. I teach at a college, so I actually only go to work twice a week. The other three days I work from home grading, etc. I was wiped out those first few weeks of work. I was going to bed at 8 p.m., which is something I never do. I was falling asleep watching TV before 8 p.m. I was physically exhausted. It got better, but I was drained of energy.

I am about 7 or 8 months post-op now, and I still don't eat a real lunch when working. I drink a Protein drink since even with an hour for lunch, I wouldn't be able to finish a real meal in that time.

I'm 52, 5-6 and 263lbs. I am a nurse but work only with infants, if any lifting at all it usually isn't over 5 lbs. I can also keep Water with me.

I am taking a week off. My clinic usually says 7-10 days. I'm 27, and I will be going back to a desk job.

My sister had the surgery in December, she was off work for two weeks. I am taking two weeks off also. We are both in our forties and about a hundred lbs overweight, but both have desk jobs.

I do think it really depends on the person. My sister said she was fine to go back when she did but she certainly wouldn't have wanted to go back any sooner. I am fortunate in that my boss is understanding and I have told him I might work remotely for another week if I don't feel up to driving in (I live about fifty miles from my workplace).

I was wondering the same thing. I'm a nurse and do home health. Not a lot of physical work except when I have to do wound care that require bending or helping reposition someone. Lots of driving though. My doc said 2-3 weeks off but I may try to stretch it out since that would coincide with my birthday????

I have been thinking about this also, being a nurse on a surgical floor with some lifting ( and I'm a little over 40 and about 120 lbs to loose), My manager took me off schedule for 3 and half weeks( that way I am off Easter week with my kids)! I just hope the surgeon will agree with this---being how I work with him on a daily basis, I am hopeful!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
