Has anybody been there? Any input? I am considering it and would like feedback on your experience.

I have not. But I would see if your surgery is actually done in a hospital, and not a surgery center, in case of problems

My friend was banded by Dr. Ortiz and she said they really took care of her. I don't know anyone who was sleeved. Also Dr. Grossbard of Tampa was banded by him.

Yes the surgery is done is a very clean hospital according to my friend.

I was banded by Dr. Ortiz in '06. Wonderful experience but it is a surgery center not a hospital. A very upscale surgery center with marble floors and spotless, not a hole in the wall in a strip mall. I only stayed there one night then the Marriott hotel for 2 nights. They have since been named a Center of Excellance. I actually scheduled a revision with Dr. Ortiz on Jan. 9 but I fly standby and got to Atlanta and got stuck. I took that as a sign and chickened out instead of rebooking. I would not hesitate using Dr. Ortiz for the band, I think he is a true expert on banding. I am scared of a revision so I am taking it slow and researching many drs. for the most experienced.

I think Obesity Control Center charges too much for surgery in a small clinic. For the same price you can go to Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. That is a full service hospital and it is also Joint Commission Accredited. That accreditation is a VERY high distinction!

Not sure where you got that it is the same price. I was quoted $8400 with Dr. Ortiz for a revision and with Dr. Aceves it was $10,950. Dr. Aceves is actually the highest quote I've received.

You could go with a very comparable surgeon in Tijuana for about 5k pm me and I'll share more (I am NOT a coordinator)

I was quoted the same prices as Joyce less than a week ago. I chose Dr. Aceves because he seems to be the expert on revisions. I was banded by Ortiz in 2009 and he is fantastic but for a revision I wNt to go to the best.

I missed the revision part! That's probably the price difference

I am self pay. I do not meet criteria in the United States, further more

Medicare will not pay for the sleeve, they consider it experimental.

I carefully researched my options and selected OCC. The fact that they ar

not a full service hospital was a plus. That means they will have no

"dirty cases" such as large bowel or infectious cases to spread infection.

They do have the necessary services, Anesthesia,Internal Medicine and

2 surgeons. I have read all of their C.V.s and they are all well

trained.

They are one of only two "Centers of Bariatric Surgery Excellence" in Mexico.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
