The Band and your nose

Recommended Posts

I had this thread out last year~ and now it's back..

This thread is for talking about how smells effect your band is good or bad ways...

Mine is about a bad way I guess... I have found that since my banding things that smell bad make me sick, Aka: Smelly public bath rooms, really gross trash, rotten food etc. If I smell them its pretty instant that my stomach empties its self (putting it nicely)

Anyone Else noticed this happening to them?

I figure its because we have to take the time to actually taste and smell our food now, that it has mad our sense of smell that much more stronger.

Nana~

I've only had one time that I was adversely affected by smells since my July 5th surgery and it was when I was re-heating beef tips and gravy on top of mashed potatoes for my husband. That was about a week after my surgery. Otherwise, I've been okay - I've noticed things smell a lot stronger though.

I was already this way before the band. Any nasty smells would just make me sick to my stomach. I have not had an encounter with a nasty smell since being banded, so it will be interesting to see what reaction I'll have when I do get a whiff(sp) of something unpleasant.

I'm pretty immune to bad smells, the only time I've ever been queasy stomached was when I was pregnant with Eliza. Otherwise, nup, its gross but it doesnt affect my stomach.

Nope, smells don't affect my band experience, but stress sure does. I'm not comfortable in crowds (to put it mildly) and my DH took me to the IMax theather when The Bite of Seattle was going on. My band shout down I coudln't swallow my own saliva I was so stressed.

But lately I have noticed that my sense of smell is equal to when I was preggers. (no! thank all the gods and goddesses that that isn't a possiblitly )

I've noticed that now even someone talking about gross things makes me queasy. It as to be pretty gross, but this summer my brother was here and I was the only girl in the house! Anyhow that thought it was funny to make puking noises even though I was begging them to stop, and I puked...I think they all thought I was joking but I just can not take it anymore, I have no idea whats up I never was like this before...In fact I use to be the one to clean stuff up when someone in the family gets sick, now I run out the house!

Nana that happens to me as well with certain smells but, usually it's when I'm on the verge of losing my meal in the first place. After that nice golfball feeling and I'm in the bathroom it's the smells in there that give that final push to get rid of whatever is bothering me in my tummy. Gross but, sometimes it helps when I need it lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
