Will Exercise Make Me More Hungry After I'm Sleeved?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting sleeved 4 weeks from today. My doctor doesn't have a specific pre-op diet (other than 3 days Clear Liquids pre-op), but has advised to eat less, no fried foods, etc. and keep exercising. I'm a morning exerciser and got back into my routine this past Monday (Wii fit Biggest Loser game). Yesterday I was STARVING all day! So starving that after work I went to McDonalds because I needed something to hold me on my commute home. I ate a whole value meal, and then 3 hours later was starving again. I like working out, but hate the fact that it makes me hungry. Will this change after I'm sleeved?

Have you tried drinking a protien shake after a workout? I always get super hungry after exercising and that always works for me. I also drink about a liter and half of Water during and after.

Pre sleeve, I was ALWAYS hungry and got to the point that my stomach would growl, I'd get that real "hollow" feeling and my sugar would plummet. I ate, the ate some more and then topped it off with dessert :) hence I was massively obese at 375 pounds. The pre-op diet which I stretched to 3 weeks voluntarily was sheer torture. I nearly caved a few times and only really cheated once. On the second day I ate a piece of pumpkin pie.

14+ months ago I got sleeved and I can honestly say I have NOT felt that way since. I get what I describe with an old fashioned word - peckish. Just a tad hungry and if I get busy I even forget that. I've lost ~175 pounds and feel and look great. Many, including me take a PPI (omeprazole, which is generic Prilosec) to keep stomach acid down and avoid what the brain "thinks" is hunger. I am now taking it only every 3 days and doing just fine. I may try and come off it completely and see how I do. The biggest thing for me is boredom, those few occasions when it is so easy to slip back into the bad habit of snacking when there is nothing much else that interests me. I try and stay busy and keep exercising to keep active and burn those calories.

This has been my experience. Of course YMMV, IANAD, IANAL. We all wish you the best of luck as you start your adventure.

Yes, yesterday I worked out first thing in the morning, and then had my Meal Replacement shake right after. Today I didn't work out this morning, and am going to try moving it to this evening before dinner to see if that helps.

Ok, thanks that's good to know. Congratulations on your success! I was telling my friend yesterday it sucks that working out makes you so hungry. I couln't believe I ate McDonald's yesterday ugh! I didn't work out this morning and ate Breakfast around 6:30 am. So far, so good. I hope working out at night helps until I get sleeved.

I actually feel less hunger when I work out. I think Rootman is correct in that boredom is usually our worst enemy here. When I feel that coming on, I try to hit the gym or get out for some exercise one way or another. After I've finished working out, hunger is not really what I feel. I've had to try and force myself to eat to restore what I've lost. If I'm burning 600-700 calories on a 30 mile bike ride, it's hard to consume those calories in one sitting so I have to spread it out over time which is a more 'controlled' snack method. But I think I might be in the exception here in what I feel.

I notice that when I'm bored, I tend to start looking and thinking about some kind of snack. If someone has any unhealthy Snacks here, I will find it and munch a little. I've been making high Protein (protein powder) pancakes and pumpkin banana high protein bread that is delicious. That helps take care of any hunger whether head hunger or real hunger. It works and make me happy. ;)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
