Your Progress 6 Mos. Post Op?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

Now let me start off by saying I know results may vary but I just kind of want to get an idea of where I MAY be 6 mos. post op. My surgery date is 4/23 and I will be going on a cruise 10/20 so almost exactly 6 mos. post op. How much weight did you lose? How many dress sizes did you lose? Eating habits? Anything you want to touch on is fine. Thanks.

I guess I am six months post op, shy 1 day. I just figured it up on my fingers, lol. I have lost half the weight I want to lose, actually, just a little over half. I started at 352 and am at 266.6 today. My doc and I revised my goal last month to 190, so I'm getting close to it. I started in a 24/26 and I'm now in an 18, and dropping sizes rapidly. I just spent a month at the same scale weight, but dropped a couple of sizes during that month.

I eat basically what I want, although I do still have to limit my portion sizes because I can't eat a lot at one time. I try to work out every day and usually manage 4-5 days a week. The biggest change for me has been to my energy level! At 45, I keep thinking I should slow down, but I'm almost always up for heading out somewhere to walk or dance or shop or... just LET's GO!

I think you'll find that you are in great shape to take the cruise in October and you'll enjoy it more because you'll be fitter, more able to wear cute clothes, and you'll have the energy to enjoy the activities and shore excursions. :)

Good luck!! :)

I was 6 months on 2/23. Totally agree with Lissa regarding energy, can't believe how much more I have compared to pre surgery. My weight loss has been good (but I also lost about 1/3rd of my total pre surgery). I'm at a point where the weight loss has slowed a bit but I still see huge changes in waist, hips & chest measurements. I've went from a size 50 to 40 in Jeans (and could probably fit in a 38 right now) and from 5-6XL in shirts to 2-3XL.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
