Jjen 10 Posted March 1, 2012 Will I Really NOT Be starving for food? I'm worried that after I get the sleeve, that I'll still want all of the junk I eat now & I'll stretch it out & not loose weight... Guess I'm just nervous.
melissa45154 2 Posted March 1, 2012 I was the same way. I'm 8 weeks post op today. I have had a headache for the past 2 days, and I realized this afternoon that I literally had only had about 2 bites of food in the two days. Not good I know, but if I'm not on my schedule then eating kind of goes right out the door. Now, with that said I do get "cravings" for food I used to love before being sleeved. I'll admit some of the cravings have gotten so bad that I actually took a bite of whatever it was. It was digusting. My tastes have changed so much. That was hard for me and something I am still working through. I never really thought I had as big of an emotional and mental problem with food before surgery. Now I realize that I do and am working on it. I also had a huge fight with my dh on valentine's day. I ordered delivery from my favorite place, and once it got there I took 2 bites and was full. I through the rest in the trash. I was so upset to caving under the emotional eating, but then I realized somethings. 1) If I had not been sleeved I would have ate 20 times as much as what I did that day. 2) The sleeve is helping me recognize my patterns and problems with food so I can change them. I'm really tired right now so I'm not sure this is making any sense right now, but to answer your question I do get hungry from time to time. I never feel like I'm starving, and it is still weird to me that I'm hungry I eat a few bites of food and I'm so full. Oh, and I am not a doctor, but personally I think it won't be easy to stretch the sleeve out. If you eat to fast or even 1 bite more than you should the sleeve will not be nice to you. Good luck
isntsheclever 38 Posted March 3, 2012 I also had the fear that I would just stretch my stomach back out. My doctor told me that it would be very unlikely. The part of the stomach that they remove is the stretchy part. The tissue that's left is not as stretchy. It seems to me that if I overeat post op, I'll be way more likely to vomit than I will be to stretch out my new banana-tummy.
lessofme2010 25 Posted March 3, 2012 I can say I am still hungry. But I am satisfied with a small amount of food. I always eat my protien first and if room have some veggies. I have no real desire for junk. Once in a while when my kids are eating crackers I would LOVE to have some, but I don't because they are a weakness for me. Carbs in general are a slippery slope. AllForMy4 58 Posted March 3, 2012 I am 6 weeks out and the ONLY time I ever get hungry is if I have went a long time without sipping on my Water. :/ Then when I start drinking again,it immediately goes away. I have went through the head hunger and nipped it real quick,I have no problems now with that,it is hard at first. I get up every day and have to make myself eat a good breakfast(an egg and a few bites of peaches,or a string cheese).
OilSooner 23 Posted March 4, 2012 I'm hungry all the time. I have been since a week or so post op. The difference is that I can only eat a small amount, then I am full. I feel like I eat all day, but I never eat more than 1500 calories. I do the many small meals through out the day, as people actually recommend. I'm 7 weeks post op. Bedhead 158 Posted March 4, 2012 I'm hungry a lot too and I think one half of it is real physical hunger (because my body needs energy and I haven't eaten more than a few teaspoons in hours) and the other half is head hunger and awful cravings.

I'm really concerned about the whole head hunger/cravings thing. I had a terrible time with wanting to eat all of my favorite foods 'one last time' before I started my preop diet. BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted March 4, 2012 I still get hungry. I don't get as ravenous as before - if I'm really busy, I can skip a meal - but eventually I just start feeling the effects of low blood sugar (cranky, weak, etc), so I know I HAVE to eat. But now all I need to go from "omg famished!" to satisfied is a 4oz container of yogurt.
