Bowel Movement, There I Said It

Recommended Posts

I took my son to the doctor for this problem and he suggested Miralax. It causes the colon to absorb Water which softens the stool' date=' I think. Anyway, it works.[/quote']

I have tried miralax before, actually have a bottle at home. Doesn't work for me. I wish it did!!! I could use up my bottle

I am in the same boat' date=' but this is the 1st time in my life I have ever had this problem. I honestly don't know how people with this problem often are able to stay sane! It has been 5 days for me now and I even gained a pound (I suspect the poop is the culprit ;0) ).

I haven't found anything yet that works. I am going to call my doc tomorrow and see what he recommends. I'll post back if he has info that hasn't already been posted.[/quote']

Yes please let me know!! Thanks!

Milk of Magnesium is the VERY best! It's very effective without

cramping. Benefiber' date=' metamucil and Fiber gummies never worked for me.[/quote']

How much do you take? I am afraid that I can't gulp it down cause of the size of my pouch

I've never been able to get any of the oral stuff to work for me. Enemas work but are so awkward. The plain glycerin suppositories work for me in under 5 minutes without fail!

I am basically going to repeat other people but I was going to say enema if it's just too much to handle. Also my BF who has this issue usually does those waxy things up the butt, they work well for him. Since having the surgery I tend to be a pooping pro, it comes when it wants and there ain't no stopping it. I also take a stool softener/laxative everyday because in my opinoin there is nothing worse than being constipated. BLAH. Good Luck!

LOL I have a chronic issue with this. I find that eating some Fiber One cerial every morning helps. I do 1/4 cup of it and stir in a few big spoonfulls of yogurt. (This is pre sleeve' date=' and it fills me up so approach with caution!) Then, a couple of hours later... magic! I also second the Smooth Move tea. The other one is coffee. Just a small cup is enough to fix the issue for me.[/quote']

Where do you get the smooth tea?

Where do you get the smooth tea?

Whole Foods, or Trader Joes.... Some of the stand alone herbal type stores will probably have it too, but I always find it at those two chains...

7 Days post op - No bowel movement. My nurse sister told me to use glycerin suppositories. The worked in about 15 minutes and I felt so much better. My issue started with the pre-op diet. I became super irregular. Then I messed around and took an exlax. LOL!

Now I am 9 days post op. I have to use the suppositories. Plus it gets lots of gas out.

THIS IS SO GROSS TO TALK ABOUT! But I guess people need to know how it affects your rhythm.

I just had this same issue. I am seven weeks out and had not gone for at least SEVEN days. It was really starting to bother me. I tried Milk of Magnesia and six hours later......success! It caused no pain or cramping. It was a 4 oz dose and I was able to easily drink it. I'm still trying to figure out what to do for long term so this doesn't happen again.

Anyways....also about Miralax. It does NOT work immediately....not sure how long you tried it. It takes a good 2-3 days at least to start working....but it is very effective. You just need to be "regular" about taking it. Not a one dose thing like MoM.

I haven't had the sleeve yet, but Metamucil never helps me. I have chronic Constipation. I find liquid fish oil (odorless lemon flavor) does the trick. I take 6000 mg everyday. And I go 1 time/ day

Can you tell me pls where you find the liquid fish oil and does anyone know if it's okay post-sleeve? Thx!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
