Hello Sleevers, I've had a feber on and off for about 36hrs and I had surgery on Monday at 9AM.

Should I worry? I am in Mexacali scheduled to fly home tomorrow, should I worry about my fever? They've given me Tylenol but hasn't really fixed it yet.

What should I do? Not sure I am up for the 4 and a half hour flight and 3 hour drive...

Call the surgeon and ask them to do a leak test

I agree. Fever this soon after surgery is NOT a good sign.

Fever is indicative of your body fighting off infection. See a doctor ASAP

Yes!! Please go to the emergency room ASAP! I developed a fever and it ended up being an infection in the staple line of my sleeve. I was hospitalized 3x in 2 weeks- one of my stays lasted almost the entire week. Please please do not ignore this. Get medical attention immediately.

Your body is telling you that there's something wrong, the fever is a big red sign. Call the surgeon and tell them what happened. Good luck! ;)

ok, so I am still in Hospital Almater and they just took an xray to see that my lung hasn't expanded properly so they are going to give me an antibiotic, does that sounds right? has anyone else has a lung problem a couple days after surgery?

I didn't have a lung problem, but was warned that fever was not a good sign. Look for PeaceQueen, MeMeMe, and Jasleeve's posts about their complications. Also, Tiffykins had problems very early post-op, so there may be older posts from her. I believe that everyone I named had leaks, but there is another poster SandyD? who had additional complications including an abcess, I think. Hopefully yours is just a problem unrelated to a leak, although no problem is ever good.

Good luck and please keep us updated. :)

I don't know if it sounds right or not, but I would tell them to do a leak test.

Yes, I agree. Have them do a leak check before you go.

I agree, to put your mind at ease I would request a leak test. If the leak test come back negative then you may have a minor lung infection. But a leak has to be ruled out. Take care.

I just did a leak test about 7 hours ago with a barium swallow, do you think I need to do another one?

Is the fever over 100.5? I had a low grade fever for about 6 days on and off following my surgery. I called the office once and they said it was fine if it's under 100.5. But I agree, if you're concerned, please get checked out.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
