Hello everyone. I've been lurking for awhile and have decided to come out of the shadows and ask some questions. I'm considering banding, but am doing considerable research before I make he jump. I've visited some local forums as well as this one and am concerned about the number of problems people have seem to have after being banded. I see people talking about being hungry all the time, vomiting, not being able to eat a variety of foods, losing their hair, needing more surgeries, etc. Am I reading these things because people who are having problems tend to be the ones who post, or do most people encounter multiple problems after being banded?

Hi SeamsSew, Welcome! I think that pple tend to post when they are having problems. Those who don't have problems really don't need to post as much, i think:) Take a look at some of the threads where newbies ask if members would do it over again, I think you will see that the pros outweigh the cons for most members here.

Sounds like you've yet to join the club, too. I wish you well on the 31st. I'm scheduled to attend a local seminar in a week or so. Maybe I'll get some of my questions answered. I've attended one seminar, but decided against that physician. I hope this proves to be a better experience. Thanks for the good information.

Hi!

Yes, you will read about problems some people have...but be sure to check out the thread where those who have lost 100+ pounds have posted...there is a LONG list!

There are also threads where people are asked "Would you do it again?" Overwhelmingly, the answer is yes.

For each of us, the decision is a personal one. No surgery is without risk, and no surgery is complication free. Hair loss is a common side effect of any body trauma like surgery. Some have more, and some have less loss. Use the search feature and search "happy", or "do it again" and see what you find.

Personally, a great decision!

Cindy

I have had very few problems since being banded. The problems I did have were from ignorance in the beginning. I tried to force liquids and eat applesauce after 4 days. I learned fast not to do that again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
