Jjen 10 Posted February 29, 2012 I am only days away from insurance approving my WLS on 01/31/12 I had to have foot/ankle tendon surgery & I'm in a cast known weight baring until 03/30/12 then I'll still be in a walking cast for 4 more weeks after that then a walking boot for 6 more weeks. That puts me in the middle of June before completely recovered. My WLS Doc says I can do it in my cast but I'm still unsure. I really really really want to have the WLS but then again I don't know if I'll be able to get around if my abdomen hurts after the WLS. I do get around on a scooter right now instead of crutches, so that part has made it easier. Anyone have any thoughts or has anyone been in the same situation?? NcBreez 0 Posted February 29, 2012 I haven't had surgery yet, but I wanted to let you know I had my sesamoid bone removed from my foot on 2/8 and tendons/ligaments re-routed as well. I'm non-weight bearing until further notice and I understand your concerns. I don't have much advice, just wanted to tell you you're not alone. So far I've only met with a surgeon, so I have a ways to go before being approved and all. I understand where your surgeon said it was possible to do it, but personally I would like to recover from my current surgery issues before moving on to another surgery. It would just ease my mind and make me less nervous to know I'm able to walk, get around, and only dealing with one thing at a time. Best of luck on your journey! Jjen 10 Posted February 29, 2012 Glad to hear I'm not alone. Even though I know it would be easier to wait, I kinda want to get it all over with while I'm down already, but then again I don't... IDK I can't make my mind up. I guess I could wait 4 more weeks until I'm able to put my 280lbs of weight on my foot but then again if I have it done next week then I have 3 weeks to loose 20-30lbs off of the weight that's put on my foot/ankle? smallgirlsxthree 23 Posted February 29, 2012 I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand on September 28, then my left hand on October 12, then my VSG on October 14. I had my left hand in a cast still for 2 weeks after my VSG surgery and could barely use my right hand for a while after all of that. I couldn't even get my clothes on or bathe myself for a few weeks after my surgeries because of my hands mainly. I understand what your trying to say about being worried, but you will be fine. You have to move around a certain amount to prevent bloodclots, but other than that you aren't going to be moving around a whole lot anyway. Marthons will wait, and you will be fine. It's going to be hard any way you do it, and you'll just have a better story when you're done! As you lose weight, it will make it easier to get around even with a bum foot. Good luck with your sleeve!
