kittenkate 186 Posted February 28, 2012 Hey everyone! I stopped taking BC about a year ago (my surgery was this past January) but I am ready to go back on the pill. I am currently taking Tri-Sprintec (the generic version of Ortho-Tri-Cyclen LO). Is there a certain amount of time I need to wait before taking the pills again? I am 6 weeks post-op tomorrow. Lissa 2,631 Posted February 28, 2012 That's a great question for your doctor. You should also be aware that it is apparently MUCH easier to get pregnant after surgery than it was before, probably related to the weight loss. Good luck and happy non-gestating to you! Liliana Arleen 173 Posted February 28, 2012 They started me on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen recently, I am 3 months post op,but I think you can start them earlier. Like Lissa said call your surgeon and ask if is good to start right now over. GL
Lilee84 648 Posted February 28, 2012 I hate pills (hence why I opted for injectible B12) so I use Implanon. It's an implant in my arm that's good for 3 years. It can be taken out sooner than 3 years, but since I got it last year after I stopped breast feeding, and we're not supposed to get KU for at least 2 years post-op, it works out perfectly! Definitely talk to your Dr about your options!
Afro_Cyster 74 Posted February 28, 2012 I recently had a bad reaction to BCPs -- extreme nausea. I've taken it in the past with no problems. The doctor said that due to the release of hormones from the weightloss coupled with the hormones in the pill, it was too much for my body. I don't know what I'm going to do because as Lissa said, we are a bit more susceptible to pregnancy. I don't want to rely primarily on condoms and I'm definitely NOT giving up sex lol so I'll have to find something suitable soon. Best wishes.
goldenraisin214 142 Posted March 7, 2012 Hi kittenkate, My surgeon required that I be off the pill for 1 month prior to surgery and wait until 1 month after to start taking them again. So at this point, I'm just waiting for AF to show herself so I can start back up. Problem is, my cycle was like clockwork before surgery and now I'm about a day late--I'm definitely not with child, but I wonder if the surgery has already thrown my hormones out of whack. And I know one day is like nothing, but still, I don't feel signs that it's coming either--hmmmm...
Pteri 1 Posted March 9, 2012 Another option may be the Nuva Ring? It's a little ring you place in your vagina, once it's in there you don't feel it (in fact, even after years of using it, I still nervously check to make sure it's still there every once in a while). In the past it's been very gentle to my hormonal levels (though since I've been on the pre-op diet, I notice that I'm significantly more emotional during the week that I take it out). And it's not a pill that I have to swallow every day.
