Is that normal to not be able to pee even though you have too. I was wheeled into srgery at 8:30 am and I haven't peed all day, I feel like I have go but when i get there. NADA I can't get anything out... I don't want a catheter so they gave me narcotics. Has anyone else had this experience?

The most important thing to do is relax. It is kind of painful to sit down so you are tensing up. Take the drugs and they will help you relax and might make it easier to go. The catheter isn't really that bad, so if it gets painful from not going get it. It is lots better than being in pain.

I had the same problem after surgery. You are full of drugs. I just relaxed and sat on the toilet for awhile. It will get better after a goods night sleep. Hang in there until it passes.

Yes! this happened to me . It really worried me and gave me a lot of anxiety. I hav this fatalist attitude sometimes that if something is wrong it will be that way forever. So on that day I remember thinking "Well that's it! I'll never pee again!!' But trust me....you will! As the poster above said your body is full of drugs, anesthesia etc. . It takes awhile for things to get running back to normal again. The best thing you can do is keep drinking fluids, relax and don't stress about it. It will happen when it happens. But I promise you it WILL be ok. This is totally normal and it has happened to lots of people after surgery. You're not alone. I did end up having a catheter put in and it wasn't a big deal either. So even if that happens don't worry too much about it . It just took my body a little longer to wake up! It was like my bladder needed a big cup of coffee!!

This happened to me also. After sitting on the toilet for 45 mins I had to have a catheter. It was very uncomfortable.

As others have stated it CAN be a normal response. Normally, at least in the USA, when a patient is put under general anesthesia they are NOT released until they can urinate and / or defecate -at least at MOST sites. You should have enough body Fluid to be able to urinate, especially if they have you on IV fluids. Be sure to report the problem BEFORE you leave. Your kidneys can get backed up and cause a lot of troubles - including infection.

Thanks all for your insights! They gave me some narcotics and now I pee whenever I need to so I'm all good. I can't wait to take a shower but that's a whole other thread ;)

Thanks a million.

So. Surgery on Tuesday and hadcopious amounts of urine in hospital. Came home and now very little pee but explosive water-filled diarrhea. Really don't know what to make of it. I peed gallons during my short hospital stay and now (5 days later) all liquids are coming out my backside

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
