windycitymom 60 Posted February 28, 2012 Is that normal to not be able to pee even though you have too. I was wheeled into srgery at 8:30 am and I haven't peed all day, I feel like I have go but when i get there. NADA I can't get anything out... I don't want a catheter so they gave me narcotics. Has anyone else had this experience?
ShouldBlittler 89 Posted February 28, 2012 Sounds like a urinary tract infection?
Lilee84 648 Posted February 28, 2012 When you have surgery you go under general anesthesia. When that happens, your bowels and your bladder go to sleep. You probably don't know it, but they catheterized you at some point after your anesthesia. It sounds like your bladder hasn't fully woken up. Just keep trying - you'll get there. And welcome to the losers bench!
Lissa 2,631 Posted February 28, 2012 Yep, welcome to the loser's bench! I wouldn't worry about not being able to pee if you're still in the hospital. They will make sure you go before you go home! Lileee is right, it does take a bit for the bladder to wake up after surgery...and it will wake up with a vengeance, if it's anything like mine. With both my c-sections I literally hit that "I gotta go NOW" point about 24 hours after surgery. Don't stress over anything right now. It will happen! *susan* 1,709 Posted February 28, 2012 I agree with the others, you are in the hospital and they will manage that. They are definitely not going to release you unitl everything is functioning properly. In the meantime, congrats on being an official sleever!
