What is an Optifast?

A special kind of Liquid Protein shake that is used by some surgeons as their pre-op liquid diet requirement.

Thanks Lisa, so why do people do it after having the surgery.

I think the OP is using the Optifast as her PRE op diet. But, some people are also required to use Optifast until they start mushy foods as well. As for someone doing it further out, I have no idea. Perhaps their doctor or nut has suggested it as a way to break a stall? I'm in the "try to get your Protein from food" camp myself.

Of course, I know a gal who had WLS that still drinks Protein shakes exclusively at 2 years plus post op. She ends up in hospital regularly with dehydration issues and I honestly think she has anorexia now, because she still sees her fat self at 145 pounds.

Yes truly sad Lissa! I hope she is also getting some psychological help. Healthy is not only about our bodies!

Wow I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, I can understand why people with a stall would consider it but to make it your only form of eating is a bit crazy. Thank you once again for explaining

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
