Struggling With Food (Vomiting) And In My 2Nd Mon. As Of Today!

Okay I am really frustrated at this point I am back on liquids because solid foods were not agreeing with me like fish, milk, eggs (boiled/scrambled). I have tried veggies no luck. I have tried wheat mc-muffin with adding cheese on top and a sauce however it did not agree with me. I have tried Beans as well no luck. Greek yogurt has been fine and oh yeah Protein Shakes but I am sick of it and bored. I do a lot of egg drop soap other soaps I have tried like creamy soaps work sometimes. Please help suggestions anyone for some foods to eat that will actually stay down and not feel bad going down... I have tried some recipes from the website such as tuna with cream of chicken base with peas did not agree with me at all…

Hi, Sorry you are having such a hard time. It is hard to say b/c you do not say how long you have been sleeved or any other circumstances. Also, If you do not mind me saying maybe choose a larger font size, very hard to see.

How long ago was your surgery?

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with the reintroduction of mushy/solid foods. Please be patient and know that it may take some time for your new stomach to get used to them again, but it will happen. Did you spend a good two weeks just introducing the mushy foods before moving on to solids? Sometimes going to solids too quickly can set you back.

I'm on day 28 and I'd say 50% of my caloric/protein intake is still in shakes, usually two a day. What has gone down well for me so far:

Plain, non-fat Greek yogurt with 10-14 blueberries

Small curd, lowfat cottage cheese mixed with 1-2tbsp unsweetened applesauce or 1tbsp pesto (or plain!)

Soft poached or boiled eggs with runny yolk - my doctor mentioned that scrambled or omelette style is too hard until 6-8 weeks out

Egg salad made with Greek yogurt, dash of relish and seasonings

Laughing Cow or Babybel cheese

Juicy, tender skinless chicken breast - make sure it's not tough, sometimes helps to have with broth

Soft/medium tofu in miso Soup or slightly seared in seasame oil with mushrooms

Well-cooked asparagus, okra, spinach - no raw or roasted veggies for a few months, must be mushy for first 2 months

chicken meatballs from Trader Joe's with a light, homemade marinara suace

Lean deli meats (juicier the better!) like chicken, turkey

The trick is definitely to take in solids at first with sauce or broth, something to keep it juicy or soft. And chew, chew, chew. Even when I eat mushy asparagus, I keep it in my mouth until it's practically dissolved. You can make great homemade Soups with the good veggies like broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower and some veggie or chicken broth. My doctor doesn't want me near cream Soups or Beans at this point, too high in carbs. Definitely NO bread, Pasta, rice, or potatoes. Good luck! I'm hoping more people post because I'm always looking for ideas!

Go slow though. Try starting with the softer foods that emlefe suggested like egg salad (or ham salad, tuna salad),tofu, laughing cow, yogurt, cottage cheese etc, in very small amounts. I couldn't eat chicken breast, deli meats or meatballs on my 5th week. Laughing cow and mozzarella string cheese had to be at room temperature. Similar to Emlefe, I was basically getting my nutrition from shakes (more like 80%) and sampling 1/2 ounce of this and 1/2 ounce of that. Consider getting new recipes for shakes so you can go easy on the solids. Our tummies do not all recover at the same speed. You will probably start tolerating more and more soon. :)

I agree with the poster above,they have some great ideas. Just though I would give you a link to eggface's Protein Shake recipes. To kick up your Protein Shakes. They are so friggin awesome. I think it is a good idea to stick with the shakes for now,and just kind of sample the solids,but start off with very soft and juicy,tender meats. I am still only eating about 3 oxs of solids a day and relying on my Protein shakes to get me by bc even at 5 weeks out,I get SO full after eating liek 1 oz that I can barely get in liquids or shakes in for the rest of the day.       Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
