I Learned A Lesson Last Night!

Recommended Posts

Last night 2 hours after I ate dinner I so wanted a sandwich. So I grabbed half a mission carb balance tortilla and fixed it with some tomatoes, pickels, turkey, and cheese; I not only ate it, but ate it fast and oh my! I was in misery for half an hour. I am sure I could have made myself expel it, but I hate to vomit. I had never done something so stupid like eating out of time, or fast, overfilling my tummy and I am never again doing it! And the sad part is that I wasn't even hungry >.<

Lesson learned!

Yikes, definitely not a pleasant experience. Sorry you had to learn the hard way, but, honestly, I think that is how most of us learn our sleeve lessons.

I imagine that was painful because you ate bread with it. Next time, you could make a light lettuce wrap with the same filling if you need a snack. I can't eat any bread since I was told it would enlarge in my sleeve.

It wasn't bread, it was the Mission carb balance tortillas. I don't actually know if they expand, but I did eat the other half for lunch, just really slowly and nothing hurt, or overfilled me.

It is so hard for our mind to catch up with our stomach. I have struggled with this as well especially at first. My brain thinks I can still eat a huge amount but my stomach gives it the smack down and I regret it. As time goes on your mind and brain will get on the same page!

Paola - We were sleeved on the same day - We all know what you went through - I honestly think we all need to do it at least once to find out the conseuences!

Keep up the good work.............it is not easy but it is so rewarding.

Yep, I bet you won't do that again. ;) So in a way it was a good thing to experience! :) Now it's a new day and a new beginning!

I did the exact same thing - small flour tortilla with taco meat. I did end up throwing some of it up, but the good thing is that I tried it again a few days later and it was fine. The difference was this time I ate 1/2 of the taco, waited about 20 mins and ate the other half. Lesson learned for me, too!! ;)

Does it irritate your tummy again when you do that? I am back to liquids trying to get to the mushie phase so I have never experienced it...8 weeks on liquids! Ugh!

I felt like I had food all the way to my throat. I really felt like I wanted to vomit, but I don't believe in sticking your fingers down your throat, if its gonna come out, its coming out on its own. It also felt like someone was squeezing my tummy. That is the best way I can describe it. In short, it was awful.

I woke up feeling like food was not gonna agree with my tummy, so I actually did some broth for me to drink today.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
