Don't Really Have To Sip. I'm Kinda Shocked!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was sleeved 2 weeks ago. I lost 12 pounds the first week and week 2 NOTHING! It seems impossible to not drop the pounds when I'm barely eating anything. I'm working on getting that Protein in.

Anyway, my question is about drinking Clear liquids. The first couple of days I was sipping and feeling the pains and gas bubbles like I've seem so many of you talking about but after the first week it seems like I can drink normally. I do follow the 30-30-30 rule but I'm kinda shocked that when I drink I don't really have to sip. I can take serveral drinks in a row with no problem. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy about it because it's so much easier to get my fluids in. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I guess I'm a little worried that I don't have enough restriction in my sleeve. Then again, maybe I'm just a fast healer and the swelling is gone. I haven't had any trouble adding different foods back into my diet so far and I feel great.

Most of the reason we were only able to sip at first is because our stomach was swollen. When the swelling starts to go down, we are able to drink more without it hurting. I miss being able to gulp Water though. Although I don't have to sip, I can only drink about two "gulps" before I have to let it settle where I can drink anymore.

BTW, I hit a stall during my second week, too. I didn't lose one pound that week. Weird, huh? I think it is our bodies saying "what the heck did you just do to me??". I started losing again the next week though.

Keep going! You are doing great!! :D

Leederz, the 30-30-30 rule is stop drinking 30 minutes before eating, allow yourself 30 minutes to eat and do not drink while eating, then wait 30 minutes after eating to drink fluids again. This allows us to eat more of the food (protein) we need instead of filling up on liquid. Also, drinking to soon after eating can make the food move thru too quickly and you don't get the nutrients from it. It makes me hurt if I drink while I eat or too soon after I eat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
