How Long Until Your Incisions Were Completely Healed?

Recommended Posts

I will be starting week 7 on Tuesday, and my incisions are still red, and the main one (where the stomach came out) still has a scab, Is this normal? I did have diabetes before surgery (blood sugar is normal now, and has been for several weeks), so I was thinking that could be slowing things up. It doesnt look like I should call the surgeon, but I just wanted to see what the consensus was out there.

How long until the incisions completely healed for you?

Tomorrow is my four-week surgiversary, done laparoscopically, and all skin incisions closed with surgical glue. The first two came off at the beginning of week two, well healed. The third around day 20, the fourth and fifth (the two closet to the belly button) at the beginning of week three. The last two are still a little red along the incision line, nothing abnormal. Healing very nicely, applying Vitamin E every day. I was not diabetic prior to surgery, so not sure if this could be the reason for you.

Not sure how your surgery was done or if you had staples, etc. -- but you may want to call your doctor just to find out. Most likely they'll come off when they're ready and they've done their job :)

Thanks for the input.

I had sutures and steri strips. Strips came off after about two weeks, and the last of the sutures came up out of the skin last weekend, so I pulled them out with tweezers.

All incisions are still red at this point though.

I had staples, removed at the two week follow up, felt like healing (scabs) fell off at 4th or 5th week but believe everything healed sooner than that. There was still minor discomfort for a few weeks but nothing to distract me.

I had diabetes prior to surgery, I only had the glue afterwards. All of my incisions were healed the beginning of week 3. I don't know if that has anything to do with using the glue VS stitches or not.

I would call your dr, 7 weeks sounds like a long time to me.

All of my incisions but one healed completely by the third or fourth week. The one where I had my drain took several weeks longer to heal over completely and is still pinker than the surrounding skin at 5 months out. It is also the only incision I can still find. I have been sporadically putting oil on my skin to aid in the healing, but I dont do it every day because I forget. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
