Calcium And Iron

Recommended Posts

I know we are not supposed to take Iron and Calcium together; so should I take my Multivitamin that has 18 mg of iron first, and then 2 hours later the calcium citrate? Another thing is it that the iron does not let the calcium get absorbed right, or the other way around? And how much iron is too much iron? My multivitamin has 18 mg and I take it twice, so that's 36 mg of

Ferrous Fumarate

, and I have a liquid one too that has 4.84 g (thats g not mg) of ammonium iron citrate, so should I take the liquid one too or not? I am so confused!

have you ever been anemic? I just take my multivitamin that has Iron. My levels have always been fine. I would talk with your surgeon about how much you are taking. To much can be a bad thing.

I take a separate Iron supplement in the morning along with my Synthroid. I don't take my multi and Calcium supplement until bedtime (my multi doesn't have iron in it). Since you have separate supplements, you might ask your doc's office for advice about the best schedule for maximizing absorption. Don't forget to take your iron with orange juice or a Vitamin C--it helps with absorption, too. Cheers!

I do not have to take a seperate Iron tablet. I take just a multivitamin, sublingual Vit B12 and then the calcuim citrate. Women are more prone to run a lower hemoglobin so maybe you will need to take an iron supplement. I had a complete blood panel after mu surgery and all of my blood work was within normal range. I guess that I would ask my doctor to check a chemistry and see where you are as far as you blood levels.

I don't remember being anemic ever, but now that I think about it I do have the sickle cell trait (I tend to forget). I used to take folic acid but it has been a while. I think I am going to ask my doctor Monday how much Iron to take because I don't want to over do it.
