Pigging out!

Recommended Posts

Hey All...

I was banded back in June and went through the liquid/mush phase just fine.

I have had a problem though as the last 3 weeks ive had no restriction [seeing doctor tomorrow though] and I have been able to eat more or less Anything! And have... is this common to feel pretty much no restriction?

I have lost no weight past the initial 10lb which is not much now being 6 weeks?

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

S

Yup this IS very normal. You have 0 restriction and should be able to eat quite a bit. Before I got my fill, I was able to eat an entire hero sandwich w/no sweat.

You may need a few fills before you'll have any restriction so don't get discouraged... hang in there :)

Same here, took 3 fills to get me where I needed to be, or at least in the immediate neighborhood. I just tried really hard to not eat bad foods so I wouldn't gain weight while I was waiting for restriction.

I never thought I would have restriction but it took a nice fill and it came! It is really hard at the beginning until you get to a good fill level so you just have to hang in there and do your best.

Yep, had the same thing here. You will see many, many posts on this exact subject on the board. Most people have very little restriction prior to getting filled. Many don't lose any weight or gain prior to their first fill. Never fear though, once you feel restriction, the weight will begin coming off again and you will find yourself looking forward to getting on the scale every week.

I am sure everybody's answer to this will be unique but for me restriction is a feeling of satiety, a disappearance of hunger. It isn't the same type of "stuffed" feeling you had pre-band though. You just feel satisfied with what you ate, even though it is very small. You no longer have the desire to continue eating. I feel more full in my throat and chest now than in my stomach. I know automatically when to stop when I am properly restricted, and know if I keep going I will vomit. It did take me 3 fills to figure that out though. Up until my last fill, I tested my band and ate more than I should. Hang in there--you will be so happy once you gain restriction!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
