Dr C? Leaking band?

Recommended Posts

I went for my third fill yesterday and my doctor was unable to aspirate anything out of my band. There should have been 1.5cc in there. I had my fisrt fill of 1cc in May and the same thing happened when I got my second fill in June, nothing there. My doc says my band may be leaking but he has no idea where. He said I could have a flouro to try and determine where it is leaking and go from there or I could just keep coming back monthly for fills. He put 1.9cc's in there yesterday and I feel ZERO restriction now.

What would your recommendations be?

Thanks!

Certainly concerning that there might be a leak, but until you have 2 consecutive fills where there is zero aspirated, I wouldn't say for sure that's what it is. If you were my patient I'd say come back in a month, if there is zero in there again then inject some dye in the port and see if there is a leak.

This was the second time there was nothing back in the syringe. I made an appointment for August 29th. I am actually feeling some restriction this morning so I guess I'll see how it goes. I'm pretty bummed that there could be a problem though!

I went to get a fill and the PA said there's nothing there. There was supposed to be 1.3cc in there. When she went to fill it she did something and the aspiration worked. It was like she didn't put the needle in correctly for it to "pop" if that makes sense. Maybe you have a slow leak if your feeling restricted now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
