Protein Powder In Orange Juice...

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I tried Protein powder with orange juice -- it is soooo yummy. Almost like a milk shake but not quite - coz the powder is not mixing well with my orange juice even after I mixed it in a blender for about 30 seconds.

I use Optifast (a Nestle product) coz thats what my doc prescribed. As I have said before, I'm from India and dont know much abt the other products. I'll be asking about other brands available here to my doc when I visit him two weeks later. But I was just wondering if I need to add something else to the mix to make sure the powder is not 'lumpy' (for the lack of a good word - coz its not really lumpy - it is just sort of grainy). Any thoughts?

You can use the blender more time? or add some ice :) I will add 3-4 ice cubes, that might help, but there is always going to be some powder in there. You will get use to it :)

Thanks, Liliana! The 'grainy' stuff is not much of a problem. I just thought a smooth mix will make me look forward to the Protein mix that much more.. :) But I have to say - mixing it with Orange juice is soooo much better than mixing it with milk/water!!

I purchased a blender called "Magic Bullet" you can order it on-line. It makes all my shakes really nicely, including those to which I add a little fruit or ice -- or both! You can drink it right out of the jar it's mixed in and it has a lid so if you don't finish the entire shake, it's easy to store. Glad the orange juice worked out. Forensikchick had suggested it to me when I just could not get another milk/water shake down. It's made a huge difference. I have tried the coffee too and I use a vanilla flavor for that one.

Thank you, mnbsleeve! I'll check out the blender online.. May I ask what fruits you used and if one was better tasting than the other with the Protein Powder?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
