I boxed for years and I still keep a bag in my garage. You will enjoy it more if you work on your core also. Balance is really important.

It can be really fun!

I boxed competitively for a while. I'm kind of a lazy person, so for me to be really seriously committed to something (e.g. a 2-hr boxing workout), there has to be some sort of competition. Problem is, getting hit in the face REALLY, REALLY HURTS. So, not boxing anymore.

OMG does it ever hurt! You get disoriented and your sinuses fill up and you can;t even see sometimes.

It saved my life I think. I was "used" to pushing through the blam of a nose shot when I was - well, I can't believe where this pop up sometimes! - I was attacked. I was able to fight back even though I was hit repetitively in the face. The ER and Plastic Surgeon told me that people have died with facial trauma I had. I would have surgeries for the next several years. If I hadn't been used to being hit and knowing how to hit who knows...well, I know I guess. I know what they think he did to some other girls.

Pookeyism, that's awful that you were attacked like that. :(

Sleeve 4 Me (I wish there was a way to tag people on here, is there?), I would tag Coops here if I could, as she does a lot of boxing (kick boxing I think?) and she adores it.

Pookeysim, OMG... that is sooo distressing to read never mind experience! I am sorry that you went through this; but I am also impressed at your 'fight' and recovery. You are one strong lady!!

Sleeve... yey boxing! As a training routine it is amazing and has been my life saver. I go to a local boxing gym where the women's sessions mirror the mens' training only we do less circuits. My coach is amazing, he is currently away with the GB Olymic team coaching them... so he really know what he is doing!

We don't spar or fight, that was never my intention.... I just wanted to get really strong. We start with skipping and floor work, then we move onto the bags and pads - I love that bit - and then we do circuit training which sometimes incorporates kettle bells and medicine balls... no two sessions are the same and I find it such a massive benefit; not only for my health and fitness but also for stress and frustration. It is my son's fault that I go... he started a few years ago 'cos he was being bullied in school and my hubby wanted him to be able to 'look after' himself!

Next month it will be a year that I have started...

The weird thing about it, is that although I haven't lost a pound since October, my clothes are getting looser and there is a definate change in my body shape again.

All I can say is go for it my lovely... get lost in the zone and enjoy!! Let me know how it goes! x

SO I had my boxing lesson/session today and can I just say OHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOD LOOOOOOOOORD! WOW and throw in a HOLY MOLY!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT A WORK OUT MY PEOPLE!!!! And I didn't know what the heck I was doing LOL!!! He kept calling out 1 2 1 2, upper cut jab, lower cut jab. right hook, left hook etc etc GOOD LORD between that and ducking and moving up and jabbing at the same time I was SOOOOO confused but apparently he said I did OK.

This man boxed professionally and is 66 years old now and super strong, I totally felt like we were Mickey and Rocky accept I was wearing pink gloves LOL!

For some reason I had trouble with left and right and I'm not sure why LOL seriously I think it was just too much for this 44 year old to take in all at once...ANYHOO, I am going to try it once a week for 3 more weeks until my gym opens because then they will have pilates, zumba, and yoga classes.

I just CAN NOT get over what a work out this was. I'm exhausted!!! It's hard for me to sweat and I was totally sweaty. WHO KNEW???? :)

Hi all! Just found this thread, and I loved reading everyone's posts and suggestions! My boss has been boxing for excercise for quite some time now, and I inquired to him about joining his gym. He did one better, and arranged for the owner/trainer to offer 2 classes a week for anyone in my office that wanted to go. This week was our first week, and we had 11 people sign up!!

I had my 2nd work out today, and I am still kind of loopy!! I actually had to call surgeon's office afterwards to get advice on calorie consumption, because I don't think 800 calories a day is going to cut it for me for that kind of a work out!! I was really proud of myself though, I hung in there, even with the skinny folks (who by the way were complaining way more than I was!!)

I do have a question though, which I asked the trainer and he wasn't really sure how to advise me...

Do you think there is a better/specific kind of protein/carb combination that would be helpful for me to eat prior to the work out? If so, how much time prior would you suggest? The girl I spoke to on the phone at the Surgeon's office recommended these Bullet Protein drinks you can get at GNC and Vitamin Shoppe, but I already know that they have the kind of Protein that weight lifters use to bulk up, and I am not looking for that.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!! I have to say - the work out is a tough one, but I am loving every minute of it!! There's a lot of muscle confusion, and my goal is to get to my goal weight and not need ANY plastic surgery to remove excess skin. I'm 4 months PO and I'm sooo excited to begin this next chapter! Thanks all!

I started boxing last week. It's called Title Boxing Club. It's 15 minutes of stuff like running, lunges, squats, and other stuff. Then 30 minutes of boxing with some running and then the last 15 minutes is more lunges, squats, push ups, sit ups, medicine ball stuff and working on your core. Basically it's an hour of sweating and none stop working out. It's so awesome and I really enjoy it. They say you can burn up to 1000 calories so I try to increase my calories the 3 days a week I go and make sure I get my Protein those days.

My husband is a boxing instructor and fitness trainer for NY Sports Club. (his hobby)I don't go to his classes because of 4 little ones at home, but I know a lot of his students that absolutely love it. At home it is fun, but the in the gym, It is a BIG workout.

Just Do It!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
