Hurting A Lot Today!

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Tuesday morning. I spent two days in the hospital and came home yesterday 4:30pm. Today I've been trying to get Water in and can't seem to. I did drink a full 8 ounces of hot chocolate product early today and have only gotten about 16 oz of Water in. Lots of pain too and I've been taking the pills for the "tremors" in the stomach which help some.

Am I experiencing normal stuff? Just kinda scared today and feel a little alone. My wife has been a great help and so has my daughter and sister, but I'm still feeling scared and a lot anxious.

Hi Ro! I was sleeved Monday, and boy what a difference a day makes! I have been taking Tylenol for pain. I've been taking it every 4 to 6 hours like clock work. I notice that if I let it wear off it is pointless... Also my pillow has become my bestfriend. I hold it against my tummy at all times. Something about the firmness makes a big difference... You are doing much better than me with the liquids. I sipped a record breaking 8oz of Water, 3oz of broth, and half of a popcicle today. But that was more than yesterday... baby steps :) And don't feel alone. You are lucky to have a supportive wife, and everyone on this forum are amazing and willing to help! Keep us posted on how you are doing :)

Hey Sabrina - what does the pillow do?

Hey Sabrina - what does the pillow do?

I am not sure how to describe it, but holding it against my tummy firmly makes everything inside feel better. I feel like my stomach spasms when liquid that is cold hits it, it helps to have a little pressure there... It also makes a world of difference when I need to cough or when I sneezed. I hold it in front of me while watching tv, laying in bed (even when I lay on my side), riding in the car... My hospital gave me a stuffed animal moose (Bari Moose) that works the same way, but I prefer the pillow :)

I am almost 2 weeks it does get better. I still have one incision that hurts bad. I am able to get the Water and Protein in, baby steps don't push it to fast. The slower you do it the better you will heal.

OK, this sounds counterintuitive, but are you walking a little bit once an hour? I know it's probably the LAST thing you want to do, but I felt really lousy around the same day you are, and whenever I would be really good about taking a hallway lap, I felt a little better and then I'd reward myself with a nap! Those who are really good about the walking early on report feeling great two weeks out. It really speeds the healing. I hope something helps for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
