DivaDee84 12 Posted February 24, 2012 Hey guys I need some help! I'm 8 months out & I'm dehydrated, I try to drink fluids but I know it's not enough, Ketones are present in my urine & I'm trying to decide if I should go to the ER or what?? I have bad headaches & feel tired all the time, just lay down most of the time! Helpppp!!!
tasherie 35 Posted February 24, 2012 Why can't you get more fluids in? Are you nauseous? Can't keep anything down? Have you tried different kinds of Fluid? I have never even had surgery and my body doesn't tolerate plain cold Water well (makes me super nauseous)..so I drink a lot of flavored waters, or the gatorade rain, green tea. topgun 63 Posted February 24, 2012 If you think you are dehydrated, do NOT take any chances. Dehydration can lead to complete organ shutdown and can be fatal. Seek professional care immediately and do not take a chance on your health. I have been there and done that and almost suffered from irreversible kidney shutdown. My kidneys were functioning at less than 10% because of dehydration from a case of the flu when they finally started improving. I was a heartbeat away from dialysis. Call your PCP or get to the ER. AlbanyDan 32 Posted February 24, 2012 Diito what Ted said. If you are getting headaches and believe that they are related to the dehydration get to the ER. I had a similar problem taking in enough fluids after surgery and was on IV fluids 24 hours a day for two days. Nothing to play with.
Lisa821 29 Posted February 24, 2012 I'm an RN and I agree with the others. Please go get evaluated. It's better to find dehydration sooner than later. I am also someone who doesn't like just straight Water. I like Xyience, the zero sugar kind, in flavors like Mango Guava or Cran Razz. They contain caffeine so consult your doctor before trying them. My pcp said they are fine for me. They taste great cold. Minimal carbination. I sip on a can (they are big cans) all day at work. I just pour some over ice throughout the day, keep the can in the breakroom fridge and it works for me. They contain B Vitamins, which is a bonus. Remember to ask your doctors before drinking them because of the caffeine content.
BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted February 24, 2012 Make sure you have your blood sugar checked, too.

DivaDee84 12 Posted February 25, 2012 Okay I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia...I went in & they did blood work & my sugar was 46...I am dehydrated & was told to just increase my fluids & see my dr ASAP, also I have a Vitamin D deficiency and the dr gave me meds to take once a week for that! Ugh!
BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted February 25, 2012 Drink a glass of Water first thing when you wake up and drink at least 1/2 glass every time you think you are getting hungry. That should keep you hydrated. Given your low blood sugar, I'd even make some of that water juice instead.
