Protein Shakes Help

Recommended Posts

Is there any other way to get your Protein in other than shakes? Eve since I starts my liquid diet, I can't drink them. They make me sick in the stomach. Heck the smell of them makes me sick. Before I started the liquid diet and had food in my stomach I was fine with them.

So is there any other way to get your Protein in? I remember someone saying at one of my suppor meetings that they never did shakes because they couldn't handle them. Unfortunately I haven't seen that person since I started this darn liquid diet.< /p>

I'm worried about what's goingq to happen aftere surgery.

How many have you tried? I had to try at least 10 before I found some I could stomach--most are quite vile but I found chocolate Premier Protein ready-to-drink at costco and I can get them down. Chike makes really good-tasting ones, too, and they have a sampler pack so that you can try the flavors. nectar makes fruit-flavored ones that some people like.

I have tried the nectar brand and found a few flavors I liked but since I started th liquid diet, I can't stomach them. This morning I tried unjury in my crystal lite and could not finish it.

I had the worst luck with keeping Protein down. I loved nectar before surgery. After it made me want to vomit. I tried nectar, unjury, premier and about 10 different types. By the time I was about to give up (2 months post op) I decided to try Unjury again, and I was able to finally tolerate it. I think I had to realize how gross they could get to realize how good Unjury was in comparison.

There is hope, just give it time and you will find something that works, or you will find a happy medium with meats, cheese, egg, Beans, yogourt etc.

The Isopure plus in the 16 oz bottles have worked for me. Alpine Punch and Grape are the flavors I chose. Each bottle gives you about 15g of Protein

Can you share the best place to purchase - cheapest price overall?

Thanks

I just ordered some Unjury chicken broth mix. 8 oz has 20 grams of Protein, so I'm going to add it to my Soups when I can eat "normal" food, or even to the cream soups I can have now. I tried it in the hospital when I had NO interest in anything, and I thought it was tasty then, so I figure it would be great now. It'll be a nice change from the drinks when I have a low protein day. See if you can order samples. Just a suggestion.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
