What Were You Eating Around 4 Weeks Post-Op?

Recommended Posts

I'm just about 4 weeks out & have really been struggling with eating. I have always had an easily upset stomach, so I'm not shocked that a lot of the food that's recommended at this stage makes me throw up. From Protein Drinks to Soups it all makes me want to throw up...which I've done almost every day. Last night I ate about 3 oz of mahi mahi with a very generous amount of vinagarette on it for lube & ate teeny bites...got it all down in about an hour & it was the best I've felt post meal side having surgery. A couple hours later I ate some pudding & felt ill. Maybe all this processed, fake sweetner enhanced food doesn't agree with me ?? So, all of this said........what were you eating around this stage???

Kayte, definitely one month post op is all trial and error. If pudding is making you nauseated and sick, don't eat it. Our stomachs will be sensitive enough during that time.

You might get tired of your limited choices, but you will only have to endure this for a few months. If your stomach likes mahi mahi... keep eating it. It's amazing and great for our bodies. :)

I was eating a lot of pureed foods around 1 month post. I like to puree rotisserie chicken of all things. I thought it was heaven. I also loved cream of wheat!! Yum!! My stomach also tolerated tuna with mayo on saltines.

I was super limited on what my stomach liked. I went through it!!! LOL It's okay though because today I'm at goal and life's good. *hugs* you got this!

I'm at 5 weeks post-op now. I never really pureed foods to be honest. I either ate liquids or soft foods (and chewed them up until they were essentially liquid in my mouth). I dont know, the idea of pureeing normal food and then drinking said food......just couldn't do it. As for what I'm eating now, I usually have a yogurt or Protein shake for Breakfast, tuna on wheat toast for lunch, and a turkey dog for dinner. I drink as much Water as I can in between. I've been drinking the low-calorie gatorade after workouts because I get dehydrated really easily and I think I'm going to try that Isopure stuff as well.

Honestly, I'm at the point where I'm testing the limits of my stomach. I tried a small bite of taco and it made me sick, so no more tacos for awhile. I tried grilled cheese (1 slice of wheat bread, 1 slice of fat free ham, 1 wedge of laughing cow cheese spread onto the bread) and that made me sick too, so no more of that. I think at this point that's all you can do. Eat healthy stuff and just see what you can tolerate. Definitely get your fill of Mahi Mahi if you like that, that's one of my very favorite foods so I eat that and tuna quite often. I love those babybel cheeses, hot dogs, yogurt, Jello, etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think at this point you can eat anything (obviously stay away from Pasta and white bread) but you don't have to stick with soft foods, you can start working normal food into your diet. There are some GREAT recipes on this site so definitely check those out as well.

Around that time I started drinking Atkins shakes. Personally I like the Caramel Cafe flavor. I still drink a lot of them. I pretty much lived off of these, eggs, and tuna fish. After awhile you might be able to tolerate wendy's chili. I'll admit I don't do a lot of variety in my diet so I'm sure others will come along with better answers!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
