Sorry, a Multivitamin is a daily requirement forever and ever amen. At least that's what my surgeon tells me. Truthfully, you'll probably find that you need more than just the Multivitamin. My daily regimen at 5 months post op includes: Morning: chewable multi-Vitamin, sublingual B12, Biotin, and two Tums. Evening: two Tums and an extra Multi-Vitamin if I haven't managed to get some veggies in during the day.

Most doctors actually recommend a Calcium pill, but I take the Tums because of interaction with other meds that I take.

The Vitamin isn't a big blip on the radar. Just find one whose taste you can tolerate. I'm going to switch to a pill I can swallow when I buy more Vitamins, but the chewable pills have been wonderful so far! :)

I've always taken a Vitamin every day, so adding another one is no biggie.

Yes, but even without the surgery we should be taking Vitamins anyway, so just look at it that way :)

Yep it's an every day thing forever.

I have my multi,

Calcium citrate(must be this type of citrate calcium because we no longer produce the acids in our stomach as before),

Iron,

D3

B1

B12

And I take the Biotin to help with the Hair loss. My dr said he didn't approve or disapprove of that one but it won't hurt.

Vitamins were never high on my "must take daily" list. Post surgery, however, your food intake drops substantially; in some cases, like mine, the type of food you eat also changes--now that I don't eat much meat or many grain products, I need to supplement nutrients that I'm not getting from food.

Presurgery, I took no Vitamins. Post, I take a multi, Calcium (I'm a girl close to 50 and I'm sure this is an osteoporosis prevention thing), Iron, and a super B. It's actually not a big deal--I keep them by my sink and take them at the appropriate time when I'm brushing my teeth.

On the up side, if you're on "medications" that are obesity-related, you may find that those go away. My husband stopped all five of his diabetic meds, his blood pressure med, his lipid-lowering med--and we are THRILLED to just be on vitamins and minerals. Frankly, they help us feel better, so it's not difficult at all to remember to take them. And they're a lot cheaper and better for us than those prescription meds ever were.

Yup, Multi-Vitamin forever. We can't eat enough food in a day to get all the nutrients we need in the quantities we need. I try to eat enough variety so that I am still getting micronutrients that might be missing from vitamins--stuff like mushrooms, blueberries, kale.

Kaiser Fremont plan has a ton of supplements, which I am dutifully taking. Better safe than sorry is my motto.

I take:

Calcium: 3 pills, twice per day

Vitamin D: once per day

Vitamin B: once per day

Multi: twice per day

B12 sublingual: twice per week

Iron: Haven't been taking, but it's on our list. If I get to feeling tired, I take it for a while then slack off.

I don't think I spend much a month , you can get your Vitamins or supplements at Walmart and it won't be much . Is not that hard to take the Vitamins . Hang in there , you can do it!!!

That's what my doctor told me. I take two Centrum silver chewable multivitamins every day, plus a prescribed B12 (man, I wish someone would have told me how awful they smelled and tasted!) and a weekly Vitamin D supplement (I was told a normal range for Vitamin D is 30-100, mine is 12  . Darn my mother's genes!). I'll have to ask the doctor to be sure but I think for right now I just have to take the B12 and vitamin D until I see him again and do another blood work. If those levels are normal, I can stop taking those and only have to take the multivitamin. Hope so!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
