Hey, I am 22 and 250 pounds with 2 kids. I am just starting to look into the lap band procedure and am really nervous about it. My husband is fully supporting me in every decision I am making. I am just not sure how to start everything and get the ball rolling. I am always open for any suggestions and all support would be awesome! like I said, I am new and extremely nervous!

Hi

Look on line for a hospital near you doing the surgeries

They will have consultations and even support groups

That is an awesome way to go

My surgery is on 8/21/06

I am on my second day post surgery diet

Good luck

Snowflake - I'm due to banded on Sept 16th and am feeling the exact same way. It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one out there feeling this.

I am 37 years old. Have two kids. I started the process in Nov. 05' . Had my surgery July 28th 06. I have lost 26 lbs. More imoortantly, I was pre-diabetic and my sugar is 68 now. In 2 weeks I appreciate my health more than the weight loss but it is a definate plus.

hey like they said just do it... I was 308 and a year and month later I am 186 and had almost given up on weight loss I had tried everything. .....

Wow! what great results Patty! If that isn't motivation to get the ball rolling, I don't know what is......

I am new here so pardon me. I tried for a year and half to eat right, change to brown this fat free that But honestly, I like to eat and I was hungry. Having the band made it so I ate less. It works like a dream for me. Now, I force myself to eat every two hours, smals amounts work and I am good to go. Good luck to all. Banding is the best, so far.

Hi,

I'm 24 with a 2 year old son and I'm also considering lap band. Before I had my son I had lost 60 lbs but when I was pregnant I inherited hypothyroidism and my metabolism went to sleep and never woke up, apperantly and all the weight and then some came rushing back. So, like you, I'm nervous but there's nothing to lose but weight ;)

Did I mean to post it here? I don't know how to navigate through here so, sorry.

Morgan,

No worries, you look like you are doing a great job. The more you come back and post the more comfortable you will be. No need to apologize, we all started at the same place. Glad to have you here.

:)

The hardest part of this surgery was jumping through all of the insurance company hoops. Cardio tests, pulmonary tests, xrays, blood tests...They want to make sure you are perfectly healthy before the determine you are sick enough to need surgery.

The surgery itself was a breeze, I sweated the thought of the horrible post surgical "gas pains", they were nothing...like having a sore shoulder from sleeping the wrong way. I got up and walked around within the first hour or so from being out of surgery, the more I walked, the quicker the shoulder pain cleared out. Now if they only had the same plan for the catheter....

The catheter went in while I was asleep (I fell so dirty, my wife thinks it's hysterically funny that the thought of the nurses putting in the catheter embarasses me). Honestly when I woke up it was the first thing I noticed and commented on, it was fairly uncomfortable...but it wasn't painful at all. To be honest, it felt like a heavy sensation of having to urinate and pressure.

OK now I am nervous!! :):)

My date is on the 22nd and my nerves all over the place about what to expect!

My wife had the same procedure about 4 weeks ago and they did not cath her.

I wonder if it is based on the hospital procedures?

But I am with you, that will be kind of embarassing!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
