Enema anyone?

Recommended Posts

Not that I'm offering but...

Did anyone have to take an enema the night before surgery? I don't have to but I thought I read somewhere here that it helps with the gas if you have an empty bowel. Do you think it might help with the gas?

Odd, gross yet intriguing question. Sorry!

I didn't have to do an enema but I did have to drink Fleet's phospho-soda.

I think I would've preferred the enema. (gag)

No, I didn't have to either. It might help I don't know. The only thing I had to do was bloodwork one hour before surgery and that was all of the preop I done period.

I was banded with Dr. Ortiz on July 12. No enema and no laxative of any kind. I didn't have gas after surgery either. I think walking around as soon as possible is the big key to the gas problem. The whole thing was a piece of cake. Good luck on your surgery.

I did not but after the gas I wish I had. A doctor her in DC suggested the enema and the person who did it was low on gas pain. If I had to do this over again I would do the enema. TMI I think.

I promised not to touch on the subject of bowel cleansing again...but that's what I did before surgery and I had zero-zilch gas of any kind. Take it for what it's worth. Just my experience.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
