Apprehension At Returning To Work? Anyone...?

Recommended Posts

So my question is... Is there anyone feeling a little nervous about returning to work (or outside world)?

With all of the changes, I am feeling so overwhelmed. Right now I have about a week and a half before getting back to my "normal" routine. What am I going to do? Will I get in all my Protein and my fluids? It's been pretty easy while at home, but worried work will bring many more complications.

One thing I have already started doing is kind of pre-planning what I will eat and where it will fit in my regular day at work. I'll be starting week 4 of post op when I return to work, so I'm hoping that being able to consume semi regular meals at regular intervals will help.

Ideas or strategies would be appreciated!!!

Getting back to your normal routine will be a little bit strange. At least it was for me. I took 3 weeks off which I was so thankful for. It at least got me through my liquids phase. It was hard enough getting them in as best I could being home all day, much less the stress of being at work with timelines and demands. :)

Know this though, I came through just fine. I did have to go easy on myself too and recognize my limitations. If you didn't tell anyone about your surgery just tell them you aren't feeling all that well and do the best you can. You just had major surgery, so be very careful! But I do know all of us had to get back to work eventually, and I don't think anyone's posted they couldn't survive. ;) You will be just fine.

I went back to work after a week and was completely fine. I'm a hair dresser too so i was standing all day and not much free time to sip sip sip but I'm almost 4 weeks now and everything is great.

I indulged in a cute lunch bag. I pack Snacks, gatorade, Breakfast and Lunch in my bag. That way I am more than prepared for the day. Any snacks that don't need to be refridgerated(pudding pack, Protein shake) that I don't eat I keep in my desk for future stuff. So far so good.

I took two weeks off after surgery and was definitely nervous about returning to work. A few people at work knew I had surgery but for the most part I didn't tell anybody. It ended up not being that big of a deal returning to work. Getting back into my regular day to day routine helped raise my energy level and I just made sure not to get too stressed or overdo it my first week back at work (granted I have a desk job). I packed all my foods and quickly adapted my workday to my new eating routine. The biggest annoyance about returning to work was since I didn't tell people what I was doing for those two weeks everybody assumed I was on a lavish vacation. I just said I stayed home to take care of some personal stuff but enjoyed my time off. After a few days the questions stopped and I am fine.

Great Idea! Love an excuse to shop. And ThirtyOne just came out with their new spring catalog. Ooooh, Lucky Me! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
