I'm in Pain....help

Recommended Posts

I ate some crab for lunch (not the fake stuff, the real thing) and I have been sliming and pbing since 1:45 p.m. and it is now 8:20 p.m. Plus I feel like someone is stepping on my breastbone....there has been a constant pain since eating but then it gets really bad and the pain goes into my back and arms.

I tried papaya enemze tablets, hot tea.....then some milk which all came back up. Even tried holding my breathe (sometimes that helps to push the food down).

Any suggestions? My God, how much longer can this go on???

Can you get liquids down? If not, you need to call your doctor. Even still.. you may need to call your doctor. :) You shouldn't be sick that long.

I would go with warm liquids only for awhile.

Then stick with hot tea, very small sips, keep doing your deep breaths/holding thing (which usually helps!) and lift your arms overhead and stretch. Geez, Margo, I'm really sorry! Do you have a fill the doc can take out?

Thanks so much for your help last night, ladies. I PB'ed for the last time around 10:00 a.m., took a xanax, had my husband rub my back, then fell asleep finally. This morning I have no pain, but feel kind of "whipped". I don't think I will be looking at crab legs for awhile.

We have been having extreme temps and humidity here, yesterday the heat index was 110 degrees, so I am thinking that perhaps that had some influence, plus my 10 year old daughter is away at camp for the first time. The counselor called me yesterday to tell me she was having some major homesick issues, but getting better. That was stressful for me!

Again, thanks, for the great advice and your concern. I have experienced sliming and PB'ed before, but never like yesterday!!!

Youch. That's insane! There's so much pain involved when you have to PB, I can't imagine going through it for an entire day. I think that if I ever got beyond the 2 hour mark, I'd call my surgeon or hit the local ER and request an unfill! But I guess I don't really know until I'm there...

Egads Margo, thats some hairy stuff !!!

I only PB'd once but i do get slimes and that stuck pain quite a bit if i don't chew. One thing i have learned is when i get that stuck pain, I do not swallow my spit, if i do the pressure builds up and gets 1000000 worse, so no matter where I am, I'm spitting like a baseball player. It helps relieve the pain faster.

Glad things are better today.

Be very kind to your esophagus today. Maybe even a few days. A bout like that does some hellacious swelling to the stoma, etc. Be very aware of any changes you notice when easing back onto solids. Sometimes this type of ordeal can result in slippage. :) Might not hurt to follow up with your doc, especially if he has flouro at his disposal. I sincerely hope all returns to normal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
