Has Anyone Gone To Mexico To Be Sleeved?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I decided ( I think :)) to go with dr. sergio verboonen, he seems as good as any other Dr. I found. I am glad to hear your surgery was great. Did you get stapes and stitches? or just staples? I think I get both, I'm trying to figure out why....

Thanks,

Sarah

I had both the sutures are just a back up and reinforcement for the three rows of staples. There have been instances of people who can't control their eating and eat solid food right after surgery and this ran rip out the staple line. Drs who dont are just trying to save time. What I found very helpful was Dr. Alvarez's YouTube videos he has over 170 of them which you can watch him performing the surgery and he has weekly question and answer sessions. If you haven't I recommend at least checking him out. www.endobariatric.com I think he even has a video on the stapling

I too went to Hospital MI. I took my laptop, my 35mm digital camera and cash. I left it in the room when I was out walking, in surgery, in radiology having tests done. I felt completely safe leaving my belongings there. It is a small hospital and I trusted the staff completely. I was able to get internet connection there. As for the tv you might want to get the Netflix or take some movies along as others have said most of the stations are in Spanish.

I also stayed at the hotel and did not feel unsafe when there or leaving my things when I went out for a walk or shopping

i'm here 2 days post op and everyone is so sweet and nice, the rooms al clean and modern and the give you just abou anything you need or want.

i love my doctors Aceves and Campoes!

OH my if you want to be treated like a queen....Dr. Aceves and his staff are your best choice. My sister lives in El Centro, and speaks fluent spanish....however, Dr. Aceves, Dr. Campoz all speak very clear english....

Clean private hospital, and you mean the most to them...They make you feel as if you are the only one in the room. I also had ZERO pain after surgery...They let you stay until you are commfortable leaving and I might add at no extra charges....It is all inclusive. Yolanda, Nina, and Blanca, and Gaby are the office crew and they ensure things get done right and in a timely fashion. They are awsome!

I was just sleeved by Dr. Kelly last week, it was a great experience. Having surgery in Mexico is different, not because of cleanliness (the hospital and staff were very clean), but more because it's just not like home and everyone else is speaking a foriegn language. But in terms of actual experience, Dr. Kelly did a great job, and I am happy with the procedure that was done.

I'm booked at the Obesity Control Clinic in Tijuana for April 17th. I know of two other Canadian women who went there and they both had a really positive experience. We fly into San Diego and they pick us up there on the shuttle. First day I think is blood work, etc. First night in the Marriott - 5 star hotel - can't wait! Surgery is the Tuesday and Tuesday night I stay in the clinic. Wednesday, if all is well and I'm keeping liquids down, I go back to the Marriott and I hear they are all set up with broth and sugar free popsicles. :-) Fly home Friday! It seems very straight forward! It's Dr. Ortiz and he was interviewed on Oprah. He's done thousands of these surgeries so I'm pretty confident everything will go well. Price is $6,995 (special on sleeves right now). If I got it done privately at home it's $30,000. Big difference and makes it doable for me! I'm apprehensive, but who wouldn't be - looking forward to the results though. Good luck to everyone having this done - I really believe the long range benefits will outweigh (pardon the pun) the negatives. :-) Deb in Salmon Arm, B.C. , Canada

I am sorry that you changed your mind and switched from Dr F Garcia after reading a post on here by "ONE" person. If that was the case most of us would have never had WLS at all. There are rumors and stories about all the surgeons and I think that some people think they have an "agenda". I don't have a clue as to what Lacie said regarding Dr Garcia but I found him to be fantastic. Just as those who have had surgery with Dr Kelly have thought that they had the best experience. If you did not do your research on the surgeon and are going to pick because of what you read with nothing to back up the story......well then I wish you the best experience with the surgeon that you chose for your surgery. I wish you all the best. Just wish that people on this forum would stop trashing surgeons.

At this point I have my tickets and my surgery is paid for. Rumors are not going to help me at this point. In fact I switched from Dr Garcia after reading Lacie's story on here. I really just want to get this behind me.

This is not a fact by any means. But is seems as though the American doctors have more mishaps than the ones in Mexico. This may not be true. It just seems that way in what I have read. In Mexico they seem to have more experience.

Side note, Awhile back I did read about dr Kelly losing a patient. But the people that go to him swear by him. Someone called his coordinator at the time who was trish, and they did tell them what happened. Which could of been the truth or not. I dunno. It was nothing he did as I understand it though I can't remember exactly what it was and don't want to add rumors. But it is on this forum somewhere

I went to Jerusalem Hospital and I feel that everything about my care was top notch. I'm Canadian too, and there were several other Canadian women there while I was there. When I got my stitches out here in Canada, the doctor who did it agreed that the care medical tourists receive in Mexico is excellent all around :)

I,agree that it does seem like the doctors in Mexico are more qualified than the one's in the U.S. I am still trying to research are decide where I want to go. My husband will not fly, and I really want him with me, so the west coast people are out. I am looking at the doctored in Memphis, Dr.Alvarez, and Dr. Pinson in Tupelo,Ms. I feel like this is a very important decision not to take lightly. I have cared for patients who had the gastric bypass, and there were some real horror stories. I do feel good about my decision to have the sleeve, but just who?

I was sleeved 3/15 by Dr. Kelly. I think he did a fabulous job, and the medical care was very good. I would go back to him.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
