Jswilbur 42 Posted February 21, 2012 I am trying Protein Drinks. Had my first one last night, one for Breakfast and one for lunch today. Last night I had a terrific stomach ache, but I thought it was because I took my Vitamins too late. I am having the stomach ache today, too. Anyone else had this happen from Protein drinks? Is there a way to prevent them or help with the absorption better? All I could think was if I can't tolerate this, I could be in major trouble!
illgeturhairdid 176 Posted February 21, 2012 Are you mixing your Protein Drink with Water or milk?
Lissa 2,631 Posted February 21, 2012 What are you mixing the Protein with? If it's milk, the milk could be causing your issue. I became lactose intolerant after surgery, even though I never had problems with it before. Keep trying other liquids besides milk and see if that helps. You can put Protein powder in Decaf coffee, or anything else that you think sounds good with the flavor of Protein Powder you have. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury makes an unflavored powder, but I've never tried that one. I just add Protein powder to my decaf when I need a shot of protein. I also drank lots of chicken and beef broth when I was very early post-op. Good luck! LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted February 21, 2012 Jswilbur, if it's RTD you might want to switch to powder as majority of sleevers do end up lactose intolerant post op. I've found the Lactaid Milk tastes exactly like milk ( I love milk!!! ) and mixing that with Protein powders helped a lot. Good luck to you! So to answer your question, yes it is likely the protein drink you are using.
Jswilbur 42 Posted February 21, 2012 Yes, it is RTD! Although, it took me awhile to figure out what RTD stands for! I also have powder, so will try it now. I do appreciate the tips. Hoping to get a surgery date this week, so I do want to be prepared!
Jswilbur 42 Posted February 23, 2012 A couple of days ago I tried the powdered Protein (same brand) in milk. Just when I was getting ready to report 'no stomach ache' it hit me! OWIE! Today, I mixed the powder with rice milk. So far, so good! I also picked up some individual packets of Chike at the drs office. Haven't tried them yet. AND, I HAVE A SURGERY DATE! March 23rd! It's definitely a God-thing!
